Job summary

A data center service provider is seeking an experienced Data Center Technician for freelance work in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The role requires performing critical installation, cabling, and maintenance tasks at premier data center facilities. A successful candidate will have at least 2 years of relevant experience, strong cabling skills, and professional communication in English. The role offers flexible scheduling and hourly compensation ranging from RM32 to RM45, depending on experience level.

Qualifications

• 2+ years data center or IT infrastructure experience.
• Experience with DCIM and ticketing systems preferred.
• Familiarity with major colocation providers preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform hardware installations, decommissions, and migrations.
• Execute structured cabling (copper and fiber optic).
• Conduct server racking, stacking, and labeling.
• Perform cross-connects and patch panel work.
• Troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues.
• Document all work with photos and detailed notes.
• Coordinate with remote NOC and client teams.

Skills

Strong cabling skills (Cat5e/6/6a, single-mode/multi-mode fiber)

Professional communication skills in English

Ability to lift 50+ lbs

Experience with server hardware (Dell, HP, Supermicro)

Education

Data center certifications (CDCP, CDCS, or similar)

Network certifications (CCNA, CompTIA Network+)

Tools

Standard tools: screwdrivers, cable testers, label makers, fiber inspection equipment
