Metro-E migration involves transitioning network infrastructure from legacy systems to enhanced Metro Ethernet solutions. The project ensures seamless data transmission, improved bandwidth efficiency, and optimized service delivery. Key focus areas include:
- Pre-migration planning and risk assessment
- Execution of migration strategies with minimal downtime
- Coordination between stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams
- Post-migration performance analysis and troubleshooting
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead migration planning and coordination with stakeholders.
- Conduct weekly meetings to review migration progress and resolve issues.
- Assist customers in data gathering, port mapping, and documentation updates.
- Develop procedural documents and migration scripts.
- Provide on-site support during migration activities.
- Troubleshoot network issues and ensure a smooth transition.
- Monitor network performance post-migration and generate reports.
- Offer technical assistance and respond to customer inquiries.
Resident Network Engineer (RE) Scope
- Serve as the primary point of contact for on-site migration support.
- Ensure real-time monitoring and immediate troubleshooting during migration.
- Collaborate with customer teams for seamless implementation.
- Assist in documenting changes and maintaining migration records.
- Provide post-migration technical support and reporting.
- Understanding of networking protocols, data communication technologies like BGP, OSPF, MPLS, IS-IS, VRF, LLDP, LACP.
- Understanding of BGP, including types of BGP (eBGP & iBGP), BGP attributes, and their functions.
- Understanding of how BGP attributes work in path selection.
- Understanding of Route Reflector, its functions, and how it works.
- Understanding and ability to explain MPLS and its operation.
- Understanding of Layer 2 & Layer 3 services.
- Understanding of the differences between IS-IS and OSPF and how these protocols function.
- Understanding of Route Target, its functions, and how it works.
- Understanding of communication between L1 and L1/L2 routers.
- Understanding of VRF and its functions.
- Strong troubleshooting skills related to IP networking.
