This role ensures the accuracy and reliability of measurement systems and instruments used in manufacturing and production processes. Key responsibilities include calibrating precision instruments, maintaining measuring equipment, and conducting First Article Inspections (FAI) to verify product compliance with specifications. The role involves collaboration with metrology engineers and quality engineering teams to validate product dimensions, monitor quality, and ensure adherence to industry standards.
What will you be doing?
This role focuses on ensuring the precision and accuracy of measuring instruments and equipment used in manufacturing. Key tasks include calibrating micrometers, callipers, height gauges, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and optical measurement systems according to the calibration schedule. The role also involves investigating measurement discrepancies, performing repairs, and liaising with external calibration service providers to maintain instrument reliability.
Additionally, the individual will collaborate with quality assurance, engineering, and production teams to align measurement activities with production needs. Responsibilities include preparing reports on calibration status, measurement results, and corrective actions, as well as supporting audits through proper documentation of calibration certificates, FAIs, and compliance records.
The role also requires maintaining an organized inventory of metrology tools, adhering to 5S principles, and complying with health, safety, and environmental policies. Reporting HSE incidents and contributing to safety, efficiency, and sustainability improvements are essential parts of the position.
What will you need to be successful?
The ideal candidate will have a diploma or equivalent in metrology, mechanical, or engineering technology, with strong English communication skills. A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in metrology, calibration, or quality control in a regulated industry is preferred, especially within medical device manufacturing, and familiarity with standards like ISO 13485, FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820, and MDSAP is advantageous.
Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, measurement techniques, and using instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMMs is desirable. A solid understanding of calibration standards and measurement principles, including GD&T, ANSI, ASTM, and ISO standards, is required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office for reporting, along with strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, is preferred. The role may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
