Job summary

Smartlink Engineering Sdn Bhd, based in Bayan Lepas, Penang, is seeking a Mechanical-Electrical Assembly Technician to join our industrial automation and precision machinery team. You will assemble mechanical components, read engineering drawings and BOMs, and ensure assembled machines meet quality standards.

The role covers mechanical fitting, setup, testing and basic troubleshooting. You will work under 5S and QMS guidelines and may relocate to Batu Kawan once our new facility opens.

Qualifications

• Minimum SPM, certificate, diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance or related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in machine assembly, equipment manufacturing, automation, or similar environment preferred; fresh graduates with relevant training may apply.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs and work instructions.
• Good mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
• Willing to work overtime and weekends when required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble mechanical components, machine parts and sub-assemblies in accordance with drawings, instructions and specifications.
• Perform mechanical fitting, machine assembly, alignment, adjustment and installation of components to ensure proper functionality.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, BOMs and work instructions before commencing work.
• Operate hand tools and measuring instruments safely and efficiently.
• Carry out drilling, tapping, cutting and fastening for machine assembly.
• Perform machine setup, basic testing and troubleshooting to ensure quality and operation.
• Inspect assembled components for dimensional accuracy and quality standards.
• Report defective parts or issues to Team Leader or Production Manager.

This position is currently based at our Bayan Lepas facility. Upon completion of our new manufacturing facility, the successful candidate will be required to work at our Batu Kawan, Penang location.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assemble mechanical components, machine parts, sub-assemblies, and complete equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and specifications.
• Perform mechanical fitting, machine assembly, alignment, adjustment, and installation of mechanical components to ensure proper functionality.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, assembly layouts, Bills of Materials (BOM), and work instructions before commencing work.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment safely and efficiently during assembly activities.
• Carry out drilling, tapping, cutting, fastening, and other fabrication or fitting work as required for machine assembly.
• Perform machine setup, mechanical adjustments, testing, and basic troubleshooting to ensure assembled machines meet quality and operational requirements.
• Inspect assembled components and machines to verify dimensional accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with quality standards.
• Identify and report defective parts, assembly issues, or engineering discrepancies to the Team Leader or Production Manager for corrective action.
• Handle machine components, precision parts, tools, and equipment with proper care to prevent damage during assembly.
• Ensure all assigned work is completed within the scheduled production timeline while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
• Maintain production records and report work progress as required.
• Comply with all Quality Management System (QMS), Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS), and company operating procedures.
• Practise good housekeeping by maintaining 5S standards within the work area.
• Support machine installation, commissioning, servicing, or customer site activities whenever required.
• Participate in continuous improvement (Kaizen) initiatives to improve productivity, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Team Leader, Production Manager, or Management from time to time.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum SPM, SKM, Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical field.
• At least 2 year of experience in machine assembly, equipment manufacturing, automation, precision engineering, or a similar manufacturing environment is preferred. Fresh graduates with relevant technical training are encouraged to apply.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly drawings, Bills of Materials (BOM), and work instructions.
• Possess good mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
• Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a production team.
• Willing to work overtime and weekends when required.
• Physically fit and capable of handling machine components and working in a manufacturing environment.
