Job Description
Materials engineer: Applies knowledge of materials science to collaborate with and provide consulting to R&D, procurement and manufacturing engineering in the research, specification, sourcing and qualification of materials used in the design and production of Agilent products. Plans, evaluates and recommends technical, quality and cost specifications to meet design and business growth objectives and supply chain optimization. Identifies and qualifies alternative materials when needed. Work with suppliers to clarify specifications to meet quality, cost and manufacturability goals.
This is a Senior Engineering position which requires a high level of creativity and originality and initiative in accomplishing assignments. Can work independently, when necessary, to improve the quality of suppliers' piece-parts in the area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Leads in sourcing for substitute/alternative materials to ensure assurance of supply, achieve cost savings and/or improve quality of piece-parts.
- Partners with R&D and Product Engineering to improve products quality and supplier processes.
- Identifies and evaluates alternative materials or suppliers to maintain competitive quality and/or pricing of piece-parts.
- Drive supplier quality improvement program for Assurance Of Supply as well as Non-conformance material reduction.
- Analyzes inspection, evaluation and test data. Feedback quality performance and follow-up on quality issues with suppliers.
- Assists manufacturing in evaluating material related issue to ensure correct disposition of non-conformance materials.
- Accountable for sourcing, prototyping and piece part qualification within project timeline.
- Ability to determine the most cost-effective way or technology to support manufacturing demand.
- Improves products, processes and components to meet agreed-upon objectives. May work with R&D on redesign products or components to meet cost objectives, component technology obsolescence and customer requirements.
- Provide technical support for NPI (New Product Introduction) & Product Transfer.
- Participates actively in new product introduction, including influencing the design of the product to ensure manufacturability and conformance with the global supply chain, enabling prototyping while in the R&D lab, testing the reliability of prototypes and managing the transition into production.
- Assists manufacturing in resolving material related issues and also provide technical guidance to less experienced Engineers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical & Electronics, Materials Engineering Sciences or equivalent.
- At least 5 years relevant experience to manufacturing and supplier engineering communication role.
- Experienced in PCA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly), OEM or catalogue component, instrument & measurement product or electronic / electrical devices is an added advantage.
- Requires in-depth knowledge and experience in job and ability to work independently.
