Job Purpose
The Strategy, Research & Insights (SRI) department was established to undertake strategy and research advisory roles aimed at addressing needs, creating value, maximizing growth, and improving the performance of MDEC, especially in key impact areas and special projects.
Research And Analysis
This position will manage key initiatives and projects driven by the Research unit under SRI. It requires performing duties independently, with initiative and judgment, and includes planning and managing the following areas:
- Research design, data analysis, and report synthesis
- Strategy alignment facilitation and advisory support services
Strategic Content & Thought Leadership
- Writing strategic and thought leadership articles and content
- Project planning, development, and monitoring
- Delivering department-wide operational initiatives
Duties And Responsibilities
- Research, Analysis, and Content Writing: Lead in facilitating and contributing to strategic content writing, analyzing data, and visualizing insights.
- Creatively plan, manage, and build relationships with potential partners for thought leadership content, research, and development.
- Manage operations related to collecting, organizing, analyzing opinions and data to solve problems, explore issues, and forecast trends.
- Engage in consultation on corporate-wide research and study activities.
- Manage benchmarking analysis, content alignment, research scoping, and development of corporate initiatives (e.g., MD definitions and targets, MD Expo content).
- Thought Leadership & Strategy Development: Manage research and analysis functions, including developing strategic roadmaps and frameworks for MDEC and the national Digital Economy, aligning with national aspirations such as Malaysia Plans and blueprints.
- Lead in developing recommendation and positioning papers based on in-depth data analysis for management and stakeholders.
- Facilitate alignment of MDEC-wide strategies and contribute ideas and recommendations to stakeholders on strategic and policy matters.
- Project Planning, Implementation, and Monitoring: Lead planning and development of special projects, monitor their execution, and develop detailed project management plans.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on initiatives, facilitate strategy and implementation workshops, and monitor progress.
- Manage project meetings, track funds and budgets, and generate reports for stakeholders.
- Process Documentation: Develop process documentation, execute improvement plans, ensure compliance with policies, and manage departmental knowledge base and budgets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business, Finance, or related field.
- At least 8 years of experience in strategy advisory and market research, with interactions involving government agencies preferred.
- Proven project management, market research, and consulting experience.
- Experience in developing research insights and presenting actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Strong analytical, research, and report synthesis skills.
- Data-driven strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Organizational skills and a strategic mindset.
