Role Overview

The Digital Transformation (DT) Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of MR.DIY’s digital and software initiatives — spanning the mobile app, e-commerce, website, middleware, and supporting enterprise systems. The role plans, coordinates, and drives projects from initiation to closure, ensuring they are delivered on scope, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards across multiple markets.

Working closely with product owners, engineering teams, vendors, and business stakeholders, the DT Project Manager translates business and technical requirements into structured delivery plans, manages dependencies and risks, and provides clear visibility of progress to leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Delivery
  • Develop and review business cases – lead the formulation and evaluation of comprehensive project business cases including ROI calculations and detailed costing to ensure financial alignment with strategic goals
  • Plan and drive delivery — build project plans, work breakdown structures, and schedules for digital/software implementation projects, from initiation through go-live and hypercare.
  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget — track progress against baseline, manage the change-control process for scope changes, and report cost and schedule variances.
  • Coordinate cross-functional delivery — align business analysts, developers, QA, vendors, and operations teams around a shared plan and shared milestones.
Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Apply testing-phase knowledge — understand unit, integration, system, regression, and UAT testing phases well enough to plan realistic test cycles and set clear exit criteria for each stage.
  • Partner with vendor and QA teams — work closely with vendor delivery teams and internal QA to make sure test coverage spans all angles — functional, integration, performance, security, and regression — not just the happy path.
  • Validate go-live readiness — review test results and defect burn-down against agreed exit criteria, and confirm sign-offs are in place before approving deployment.
Risk & Issue Management
  • Identify risks early — proactively surface technical, resourcing, vendor, and dependency risks during planning and throughout delivery, not just when they materialize.
  • Maintain a live risk register — log each risk with owner, likelihood, impact, and mitigation/contingency plan; review and update it on a regular cadence.
  • Track and accelerate — monitor risk status through to closure, accelerate material risks to sponsors and steering committees promptly, and report issue logs with root cause and resolution status.
  • Manage dependencies — map cross-project and cross-team dependencies and sequence delivery to avoid downstream schedule risk.
Project Checklists, Compliance & Governance
  • Maintain project checklists — work through structured stage-gate and go-live checklists covering compliance, security, data privacy, and operational readiness at each project milestone.
  • Uphold governance — ensure projects follow PMO standards, stage-gate approvals, and architectural, data, security, and compliance requirements before sign-off.
Change Management & Readiness
  • Coordinate change management — work with business owners, change management lead, and operations to build a change management plan covering communication, training, and support ahead of go-live.
  • Ensure training and SOP readiness — partner with relevant parties to confirm user training is delivered and SOPs updated and in place so the organization is genuinely ready to adopt the new system, not just technically live.
  • Track benefits realization – Establish post-go-live monitoring to track benefits and KPIs, ensuring the solution achieves the outcomes defined in the original business case
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
  • Manage stakeholders — run steering committee updates, status reporting, and decision forums; keep sponsors informed with clear, honest status (green/amber/red) rather than optimistic reporting.
  • Manage vendors — oversee external delivery partners against contracted scope, quality, and timelines; manage vendor-side risk and escalations.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5to 8 years of experience managing software or enterprise-wide digital/IT implementation projects (exact minimum to be confirmed by hiring manager).
  • Demonstrated track record delivering software projects end-to-end — from initiation through go-live — on schedule and within budget.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining project risk registers and issue logs, with a track record of catching and mitigating risk before it hits delivery.
  • Working knowledge of software testing phases (unit, integration, system, regression, UAT) and how each fits into an implementation timeline.
  • Working knowledge of both Agile/Scrum and Waterfall delivery approaches, and judgment on when to apply each.
  • Experience managing vendors or external delivery partners, including coordinating vendor and QA teams on test coverage.
  • Experience running change management activities for software rollouts — training coordination, SOP updates, and readiness sign-off
  • Project management certification preferred
  • Proficient in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Mandarin proficiency is an added advantage
