Job Description
Legal
- Deep knowledge of securities laws, regulations, and guidelines, including applicable laws governing regulated activities in Malaysia, such as REIT and non-REIT entities.
- Drafting, reviewing, vetting, and preparing contracts, legal documents, correspondences, and agreements.
- Providing advice on trademarks, dispute resolution, arbitration, employment, and industrial relations.
- Coordinating with solicitors and authorities on legal matters.
- Experience with property law, including sale and purchase agreements, tenancy agreements, and land-related matters.
- Experience in financing and loan documentation.
- Addressing legal, risk, and compliance issues as they arise.
- Leading employee training sessions on legal issues.
- Managing ad-hoc projects and duties as assigned.
Compliance
- Implementing, monitoring, and reporting on regulatory compliance requirements such as anti-money laundering, corruption, corporate governance, and data protection.
- Supervising compliance with securities laws and other applicable regulations.
- Designing and monitoring control systems to prevent violations and assessing their effectiveness.
- Advising on legal and regulatory compliance for CapitaLand’s businesses in Malaysia, including REIT and non-REIT entities.
- Responding to internal and external audits and inquiries by authorities.
- Resolving legal, risk, and compliance issues as they occur.
- Ensuring compliance obligations related to REITs are consistently met.
- Preparing and updating compliance reports for the REIT and its manager.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in law, business administration, or relevant field.
- Knowledge of Companies Act, Bursa Malaysia Listing Requirements, Securities Commission guidelines, CCM, and other relevant laws.
- A qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of corporate experience, including exposure to capital market compliance.
- Understanding of corporate governance and regulatory compliance best practices.
- Experience in hospitality, commercial, or retail audits is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Malaysian legal requirements, particularly Company Law, Securities Commission, and Bursa Malaysia.
- Strong industry process and regulation knowledge.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects.
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin; additional languages are a plus.
- Result-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
