Job Summary:
Aligned with Prudential’s core purpose of being partners for every life and protectors for every future, the Manager of Government Relations will strategically drive Prudential’s relationships with Malaysian government stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Director of Government Relations, you will shape regulatory outcomes, advance policy advocacy initiatives, and proactively manage risks. This role is critical to Prudential’s sustainable growth and market leadership, enhancing our credibility and influence with policymakers, regulators, and key industry stakeholders.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Regulatory Analysis, Compliance, and Risk Management
- Proactively monitor, analyse, and interpret regulatory changes, legislative developments, and public policy trends impacting the financial services sector.
- Provide strategic, commercially-aware recommendations to senior management, enabling Prudential to anticipate, respond effectively, and comply with evolving regulatory requirements.
- Lead Prudential’s strategic responses to regulatory inquiries, government investigations, and potential reputational threats by developing forward-looking strategies to identify, anticipate, and mitigate regulatory and reputational risks.
2. Government Engagement, Advocacy, and Stakeholder Leadership
- Develop and execute sophisticated Government Relations (GR) strategies and comprehensive stakeholder engagement plans, aligned with Prudential’s business priorities such as Digital, Health, Sustainability, and Investments.
- Continuously manage detailed stakeholder mappings to effectively direct advocacy efforts towards government entities and regulators.
- Confidently represent Prudential in high-level meetings, governmental forums, industry roundtables, and public consultations, shaping favourable policy outcomes, establishing strategic partnerships, and reinforcing Prudential’s influential industry position.
3. Strategic Communications, Thought Leadership, and Reputation Management
- Create exceptional strategic communications including insightful research reports, compelling policy briefs, persuasive advocacy papers, and impactful presentations tailored to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Identify, initiate, and leverage thought leadership opportunities that reinforce Prudential’s expertise.
- Facilitate internal collaboration across Legal, Compliance, Communications, Product, and Business Operations, serving as the internal expert and central resource on public policy insights, while proactively enhancing Prudential’s corporate reputation through strategic, diplomatic communications and outreach.
Job Specifications:
- Exceptional business writing and communication skills, capable of crafting clear, persuasive and strategically impactful materials for senior executives and external audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Economics, Communications, or related fields.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in government relations, public policy, regulatory affairs, or compliance, preferably within financial services or similarly regulated industries.
- In-depth knowledge of Malaysia’s regulatory environment, governmental structures, and legislative processes.
- Demonstrated track records in successfully managing senior stakeholder relationships, effective policy advocacy, and strategic crisis management.
- Strong analytical capabilities, negotiation prowess, interpersonal effectiveness, and the ability to build credibility with senior government officials and internal stakeholders.
- Highly motivated, proactive learner, able to quickly assimilate knowledge across diverse subjects including finance, sustainability, technology, and regulatory trends.
- Flexibility and readiness to travel for official government engagements and industry events as required.
