Lead and drive the integrated operations, maintenance, and technical services of Petrosains’ exhibitions and infrastructure—including the Discovery Centre, PETRONAS Twin Towers Visit Operations (PETTVO), and Satellite Centres. This role ensures day-to-day operational reliability, technical safety, and seamless visitor engagement across all exhibit systems, rides, AV/IT infrastructure, and activation setups. It also oversees technical manpower planning, and contractor performance to uphold service excellence. By championing continuous improvement, proactive asset management, and the strategic adoption of emerging technologies, this position is instrumental in enhancing accessibility, ensuring compliance, and sustaining Petrosains’ reputation as a global leader in immersive, interactive STEM learning experiences.
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
(1) Exhibits/Rides Maintenance
(a) Exhibits Operations/Maintenance
Lead the development and execution of comprehensive maintenance programs for exhibits, equipment, and systems at Petrosains. Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to enforce efficient maintenance practices, minimize downtime, and elevate visitor experience. Collaborate with contractors to optimize spare parts inventory, ensuring timely reordering for uninterrupted operations. Implement rigorous documentation processes to drive continuous improvement, enhancing operational efficiency and visitor satisfaction.
(b) Rides Maintenance
Oversee the design, implementation, and coordination of maintenance programs for the Dark Ride System, prioritizing performance and safety. Establish specific KPIs, enforce efficient maintenance practices, and ensure prompt reordering of critical components. Maintain meticulous documentation to guide continuous improvement initiatives, driving excellence in operational efficiency and visitor satisfaction.
(c) PETTVO Exhibition Maintenance
Manage maintenance programs for PETRONAS Twin Towers Visit Operation, ensuring exhibit reliability. Establish KPIs to minimize downtime and maximize functionality. Collaboratively oversee spare parts inventory management with contractors, ensuring timely replenishment. Uphold meticulous documentation to enhance operational efficiency and visitor satisfaction.
(d) Playsmart Exhibits Maintenance
Lead the design and coordination of maintenance programs for Playsmart/Outreach. Establish KPIs to enforce efficient maintenance practices, minimize downtime, and enhance functionality. Collaborate with contractors to manage spare parts inventory, ensuring timely reordering. Maintain rigorous documentation to drive continuous improvement, enhancing visitor experience and operational efficiency.
(2) Exhibitions Operations & Technical Services
Oversee daily exhibit operations to optimize functionality and enhance visitor engagement. Conduct regular monitoring and swiftly address issues to ensure a high-quality experience. Develop training programs for volunteers and staff, reinforcing their role in elevating the Petrosains brand. Strategize manpower planning to maximize volunteer contributions while maintaining operational and technical safety across exhibits, machinery, systems, and rides, adhering to HSE standards.
Administer the maintenance of hardware, software, servers, and networks to ensure peak efficiency. Identify opportunities for system enhancements, upgrades, and replacements to future-proof infrastructure. Oversee ICT support services, including audiovisual setups, network infrastructure, and video conferencing for events. Ensure smooth execution of exhibitions and activations by managing technological elements effectively. Optimize AV systems, connectivity, and conferencing tools to support seamless operations and enriched visitor experiences. Implement proactive management strategies to address internal and external needs, ensuring continuous improvements and operational excellence.
(3) Exhibits Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) and Audits
Direct HSE efforts for exhibits, ensuring compliance and implementing inclusive features. Regularly update exhibits to meet accessibility standards. Conduct comprehensive inspections and audits with the Safety & Health Officer (SHO) to enhance inclusivity and address concerns. Coordinate with manufacturers for specialized audits, evaluating structural integrity and safety measures to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain a safe environment for all visitors.
(4) Contract Management
(a) Comprehensive Exhibits Maintenance Contract Management
Lead the tender process for the Comprehensive Exhibits Maintenance Contract. Drive preliminary studies, engage with PETRONAS Group Procurement, and optimize contract efficiency. Secure a reliable maintenance contractor to oversee exhibits maintenance, enhancing Petrosains' reputation as a premier destination for interactive learning.
(b) PETROSAINS Warehouse Management & Services Management
Manage the Warehouse Management Services Contract process. Craft contractual terms, analyze service requirements, and align the contract with organizational needs. Optimize warehouse management efficiency, enhancing logistical processes and overall operational effectiveness.
(5) Assets Management and Logistic
Manage asset management, disposal, and logistics to ensure compliance and maximize asset use. Coordinate tagging, tracking, audits, and lifecycle management to optimize regulatory adherence and asset utilization. Oversee disposal efforts for legal and environmental compliance and explore recycling options. Streamline logistics to optimize transportation, installation, and removal processes, enhancing efficiency and responsiveness.
(6) Standard of Procedures (SOP)
Develop and implement SOPs for exhibits operations, maintenance, and storage management. Ensure alignment with the latest standards and policies for improved operational efficiency and compliance. Review and update SOPs to ensure consistent implementation across Petrosains, PETTVO, and Playsmart/Outreach, resulting in streamlined exhibition operations.
(7) Research and Development
(a) Upgrading of exhibits and rides:
Identify opportunities to enhance safety, performance, and visitor satisfaction of attractions. Conduct assessments, develop upgrade plans, and oversee implementation to meet regulatory standards and incorporate advanced technologies.
(b) Enhancement of exhibits and rides:
Lead efforts to elevate visitor experience through innovative features and immersive elements. Conceptualize and develop enhancements, collaborating with creative teams to integrate new experiences and foster memorable, transformative visitor interactions.
Investigate, analyze, and champion the integration of cutting-edge and emerging technologies, including AR/VR, AI, and IoT, evaluating their impact on operations and exhibitions. Foster a culture of innovation, ensuring the science center remains at the forefront of technological advancements and delivers immersive, interactive experiences.
(8) Technical Services & Support
(a) Internal Support
Provide expertise to ensure seamless operations across departments, including mechanical, electrical, lighting, and AV/IT. Lead project assistance and resolve technical issues, fostering collaboration and achieving shared objectives.
(b) External Support
Ensure seamless operations and functionality, particularly in technical, electrical, AV/IT, and exhibition setup. Tailor AV/IT solutions and orchestrate exhibition arrangements, collaborating with external partners for successful outcomes.
Qualifications:
· Degree in Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical or IT from recognized institutions
· Minimum 10 years leading Operations & maintenance programs in world-class science & technology centers or related field and working environments preferably in electrical/electronic/mechanical/IT maintenance activities.
· Commitment to enhancing and prolonging exhibits, ensuring visitor satisfaction through superior maintenance and operational excellence.
· Advanced communication and leadership skills for guiding teams and translating complex ideas into successful exhibit outcomes.
· Mastery of educational design principles to amplify the learning impact of exhibits, providing meaningful visitor experiences.
· Strategic thinking and project management prowess for leading innovative exhibit projects, ensuring efficient execution and impactful results.
· Ability to conduct effective trials, analyze feedback, and refine exhibit methodologies for ongoing improvement and visitor engagement optimization.
