Job description

  • The Maintenance Technician will assist the Engineering executive in operating, monitoring, and maintaining the wastewater treatment system, Ammonia plant, and scheduled waste area to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and plant discharge standards. The technician will support both routine and emergency operations, including troubleshooting, optimization, chemical handling, and documentation across the wastewater and ammonia systems. This role plays a key part in ensuring regulatory compliance, safe operation, and environmental sustainability.
  • CePIETSO-BP certification is highly desirable.

Key Accountabilities

Plant Reliability

  • Support routine Preventive Maintenance (PM) on WWTP-related equipment in coordination with the Maintenance team.
  • Manage the third party vendor, issue permit and Job Safety and Area Analysis (JSAA), and supervise the job.
  • Operate wastewater treatment plant equipment including pumps, blowers, diffusers, screens, DAF, clarifiers, chemical dosing units, and filter press.
  • Support operation and monitoring of the Ammonia Recovery Plant, including pressure and temperature checks, ammonia liquor handling, and safety valve inspections.
  • Respond to alarms or abnormal conditions and perform first-line troubleshooting.
  • Maintain cleanliness and 5S standards across the WWTP, ammonia plant, and scheduled waste storage area..
  • Work closely with other cross functional department such as Production, FSQ, H&S, Warehouse, etc.
  • Directly involve in machinery repair, troubleshooting and rectification, part service, equipment overhaul, etc.
  • Raise concern if there is any spare part request, abnormal condition and urgent attention needed.
  • Update daily logs, shift handovers, equipment status, and plant records accurately.
  • Conduct daily inspection rounds to monitor system performance (e.g., flow rate, pH, DO, turbidity, MLSS, ammonia concentration).
  • Perform sampling and on-site testing; record and report parameters as per DOE and internal requirements.
  • Consistently work in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems.
  • Monitor chemical inventory and prepare required dosing solutions (e.g., polymer, acid/alkali, coagulants).
  • Ensure safe handling and documentation of scheduled waste (e.g., oil filters, sludge cake, used PPE, chemical containers) including 6-month inventory checks, consignment notes, and contractor coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental Quality Act (EQA 1974), DOE discharge limits, and company environmental policies..
  • Ensure GMP housekeeping / cleanliness of maintenance store, office, workshop and working tools.
  • Participate in optimization projects such as energy reduction, sludge minimization, or chemical efficiency improvement.
  • Assist in the execution of corrective actions following non-compliance, spillage, or audit findings.
  • Coordinate with Production, EHS, Engineering, and external vendors during maintenance or system upgrades.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum SPM or Professional Certificate in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Technology, Water Resources, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of work experience in the Food Manufacturing/Utilities.
  • CePIETSO-BP certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience in WWTP operations, mechanical aptitude, and conducting sampling and lab tests.
  • Knowledge of DOE discharge limits and EQA 1974 for regulatory and compliance purposes.
  • Skills in identifying root causes and implementing solutions (troubleshooting).
