Job description

Ninja Van Legal Team wishes to bring on board a commercially-savvy Legal / Senior Legal Counsel to augment the legal team's capabilities and capacity. Key responsibilities include advising the Company on a wide range of complex corporate, regulatory and other legal matters, identifying and mitigating legal risks, drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts to ensure successful closings, and managing external legal counsels. The Legal / Senior Legal Counsel is expected to be a highly self-motivated individual, proficient in communication and capable of operating independently. The Legal / Senior Legal Counsel will report to Malaysia Country Head, Legal and is expected to collaborate with all business units.


The Legal / Senior Legal Counsel will:
  • Be a strategic business partner to key stakeholders of the Company’s business units to ensure informed business decisions are made in evaluating commercial opportunities and to effectively mitigate commercial legal risks.
  • Work collaboratively across various internal stakeholders of the Company, e.g. procurement, operations, finance, human resources to ensure compliance and minimize legal vulnerabilities.
  • Enable Company’s business operations through high quality legal advice, contract drafting and negotiation skills, solutioning of legal risks and issues, manage due diligence exercises, and set realistic expectations on timelines and costs, while also providing practical solutions.
  • Provide solutioning of legal risks, disputes and litigation matters through legal research, advocacy, investigation, and legal drafting.
  • Understand, manage and drive compliance with the Company’s internal policies and governance, reporting and risk management processes.
  • Identify and assess legal and regulatory risks impacting the Company’s business operations and advise on alternative solutions and risk management options.
  • Support training and continued development of knowledge and skills within the organization around compliance and regulatory issues.
  • Assist in managing litigation and external counsels, company secretarial matters and general corporate and commercial licensing.
  • Perform other legal and regulatory compliance related duties tasked from time-to-time.
Minimum Qualifications & Competencies
  • Law degree from a leading university in the common law jurisdiction. A master’s degree in law is a plus.
  • Malaysian qualified lawyer with between 3 to 8 years’ of PQE (a combination of in-house experience with multinational corporation and private practice with a reputable law firm is preferred).
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Malay.
  • Experience in corporate commercial/contract works (including negotiation) and handling of general legal matters.
  • Experience in implementing legal templates, processes and policies, risks identification and mitigation, and managing disputes.
  • Strong negotiation, planning, problem-solving and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Self-starter with excellent initiative skills. Capable of working autonomously and is business oriented.
  • High degree of flexibility and ability in implementing and navigating changes.
  • Ability to develop and sustain good working relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels and across all cultures.
