This Legal Officer assists and supports the Legal team across the Department’s scope of work. The candidate is expected to manage various stakeholders within the Company and its subsidiaries ("Group") to ensure standards and conforming practices across the organization. To succeed in this role, you must be agile, independent, a good team player with a positive attitude to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Draft, review, and advise on legal agreements and documents related to the Group’s business, products, and services, including non-financial agreements and support contracts.
  2. Handle legal documentation for Group projects and initiatives, including subsidiary management, standardization of legal documents, processes, and templates.
  3. Identify legal risks and exposures, potential breaches, and non-compliance issues, providing mitigating solutions.
  4. Negotiate, draft, and review legal agreements to protect the rights and interests of the Company and the Group.
  5. Liaise with business units and external lawyers regarding litigation and consumer complaints, and represent the Company at Consumer Tribunal hearings.
  6. Provide legal advice to business units and the Group.
  7. Conduct legal research on corporate transactions and advise management or relevant units.
  8. Assist in managing the Panel of Solicitors for litigation, corporate exercises, and projects, including Intellectual Property Rights.
  9. Manage the Contract Management System to ensure proper monitoring and organization of legal documents.
  10. Support legal risk management efforts in collaboration with the Legal Senior Manager and business units.
  11. Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Legal Senior Manager and Head of Legal Department.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Law degree (LL.B Hons).
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in a legal role within a bank or financial institution; experience in legal practice with corporate or commercial drafting is also considered.
  • Familiarity with regulations of Bank Negara Malaysia and legal frameworks affecting financial services, fintech, consumer financing, and credit laws (e.g., Money Lenders Act, Consumer Protection Act, Hire Purchase Act). Knowledge of Islamic Financing schemes is an advantage.
  • Strong legal advisory skills, contract drafting, review skills, and commercial acumen.
  • Good knowledge of Malaysian law, research, and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail, organized, and able to prioritize under tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, positive attitude, and a team player.
