Job summary

A leading company in Malaysia is seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel with a Bachelor of Laws and a minimum of 8 years of experience, preferably in-house. The successful candidate will provide legal advisory services, draft and negotiate contracts, and manage legal documents, while also supervising legal assistants. The role requires strong communication skills, integrity, and the capacity to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Admitted as an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia or Commonwealth jurisdictions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Job description

Providing legal advisory regarding land, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, encroachment, fraud, litigation, breach of contract, etc.

Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing documents and contracts; managing and administering legal documents.

Identifying, researching, and resolving legal issues.

Liaising and coordinating with external counsel on legal matters that may arise.

Coaching and supervising legal assistant(s).

Monitoring legislative developments, identifying emerging issues, and providing strategic counsel to support the business.

Undertaking additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor of Laws from a recognized university.

Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in-house.

Preferably admitted as an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia or Commonwealth jurisdictions.

Strong understanding of legal principles and concepts.

High integrity and professionalism.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong problem-solving abilities.

Capacity to handle diverse responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail.

Willing to be based in Ipoh and travel as required.
