The position reports to the Senior Legal & Compliance

Job Overview:

Provision of legal services and compliance management to TIME Group of Companies (“Company”) to achieve the division’s strategic objectives and meet the organizational goals.

Your Work Life:

The Legal Counsel for this function will oversee and/or involve in the following functional areas:-

Compliance role

  • Identify, plan, develop, manage and improvise compliance framework applicable to the Company;
  • Perform periodic review to identify, assess and prioritise the legal and regulatory requirements set out by regulators relevant to the Company;
  • Advise on Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC), Personal Data Protection (PDP), competition, trade controls and other compliance related matters ;
  • Conduct full time in-house compliance checking on the Company’s operations and report any lapses and suspicious transactions;
  • Conduct awareness and training on compliance for the management and employees of the Company;
  • Act as the liaison officer in relation to any compliance management related issues;
  • Assist HOD/HOU as the case may be in formulating relevant policies, procedures, processes, guidelines or manuals on the management of Legal and Compliance Risks and/or the management of the Legal Division’s processes; and
  • Other functional areas as may be allocated by the HOD/HOU.

Legal role

  • Manage, monitor and supervise matters under his/her area of responsibilities with the objective of ensuring that financial exposure & other risks are minimized and the most favorable outcomes are achieved;
  • Prepare and review agreements/legal documents and ensure all legal documents and advisory produced by the unit are registered and kept in accordance with the Legal Division’s policies and procedures;
  • Attend all meetings, discussions and negotiation with internal clients as well as with external parties as the case may be pertaining to the subject matter assigned as well as preparation of the minutes of meeting or notes of discussion.
  • Generally to assist the HOD/HOU on all matters related to the Legal Division as assigned by HOD/HOU as the case may be.

For this role, the successful candidate is expected to:

  • Serve as the main point of contact within the organization for staff members, regulators, and relevant public authorities on issues related to data protection
  • Ensure that company policies are in compliance with PDP laws and regulations
  • Evaluate the existing data protection framework to identify areas of no or partial compliance, and rectify any issues
  • Devise training plans and provide data protection advice to staff members
  • Inform and advise the data controller or data processor on all matters related to data protection
  • Promote a culture of data protection and compliance across all units of the organization

In provisioning advice on legal and compliance, the Legal Counsel is expected to:-

  • Have demonstrable experience of working in data protection, preferably in a Compliance or Legal Department
  • Strong knowledge of data protection laws and practices
  • Experience in a legal, audit, or risk management role
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to manage sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail
