Job summary

Trinasolar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia seeks a Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal and commercial guidance on greenfield development, investments, and project execution. You will draft and negotiate critical contracts, manage risks, and coordinate with external advisers to ensure compliant, timely closes.

The role requires 6–10 years post-qualification experience in commercial, M&A, finance, or project development, with preference for renewable energy or data centre sectors and APAC

Qualifications

• 6–10 years post-qualification experience in commercial, M&A, finance or project development.
• Greenfield development and renewable energy experience preferred.
• APAC jurisdictions experience preferred.
• Working proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal and commercial advice on greenfield development, investment, project development, corporate structuring, compliance, EPC, M&A and financing.
• Draft, review and negotiate land lease/purchase agreements, development service agreements, joint venture agreements, share purchase agreements, loan contracts, PPAs, EPC contracts and other commercial agreements.
• Identify business risks and provide pragmatic advice to mitigate or eliminate risks while balancing legal rigour with commercial objectives.
• Liaise with and manage external legal advisors, ensuring quality and consistency of service.
• Advise on dispute resolution, risk management, regulatory compliance, and project permitting and licensing.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional departments including project development, M&A, finance and EPC.
• Provide other legal support as requested by line manager and dotted-line manager.

• Draft, review, and negotiate land lease/purchase agreements, development service agreements, joint venture agreements, share purchase agreements, loan contracts, PPAs, EPC contracts, and other commercial agreements, and assist with transaction and financial close;
• Identify business risks and provide pragmatic advice to mitigate or eliminate such risks, balancing legal rigour with commercial objectives;
• Liaise with and manage external legal advisors, ensuring quality and consistency of service;
• Advise on dispute resolution, risk management, regulatory compliance, and project permitting and licensing;
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional departments including project development, M&A, finance, and EPC;
• Provide other legal support as requested by line manager and dotted-line manager.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with 6-10 years of post-qualification experience as legal counsel or lawyer in commercial, M&A, finance, and/or project development matters;
• Experience in greenfield development and/or the renewable energy, energy storage, or data centre sectors is preferred;
• Experience working across Asia-Pacific jurisdictions is preferred;
• Working proficiency in English;
• Strong commercial awareness and legal risk sensitivity, with the ability to understand complex arrangements and deliver practical, business-oriented solutions;
• Capable of working confidently both independently and as part of a multicultural, cross-border team;
• Diligent, detail-oriented, and effective in working with diverse stakeholders;
• Willingness to travel frequently across the Asia-Pacific region or other region as required.
