Job Description
Provide legal counsel to the international payments and remittance division, covering a broad range of domestic and cross-border legal and regulatory issues. This includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, assessing legal implications of new product initiatives, and advising on regulatory developments impacting payment services.
Collaborate with internal teams such as Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Sanctions, Data Privacy, Intellectual Property, and Litigation to ensure effective management of legal and regulatory risks.
Work cross-functionally with stakeholders across various regions and departments-including Business Development, Finance, Foreign Exchange, Tax, Risk, and Operations-to support strategic and operational goals.
Support internal governance processes by facilitating legal reviews and approvals for new business strategies and initiatives.
Develop, implement, and manage legal frameworks, policies, and procedures relevant to the payments and remittance functions.
Identify and escalate significant legal or regulatory issues as necessary, while partnering closely with legal team members to provide comprehensive legal support.
The Successful Applicant
Holds a law degree (Bachelor's or higher) with at least 6 years of post-qualification experience.
Strong background in financial services, particularly in payments and cross-border remittance within the APAC region.
Common law qualification with international law firm training; in-house experience in a regulatory or financial institution is advantageous. Solid understanding of compliance and regulatory frameworks, especially payment regulations in Asia;
Demonstrate expertise in legal drafting, contract negotiation, and legal analysis, supported by sound commercial judgement.
Self-driven, collaborative, and adaptable with effective project management capabilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders; Mandarin proficiency is an added asset.
Proven ability to manage and lead teams effectively.
