Job description

The job description provides a comprehensive overview of the Legal Counsel role, including responsibilities, requirements, and company background. However, it can be improved in terms of formatting and focus:

1. Use consistent and appropriate HTML tags to enhance readability, such as replacing duplicate headings and organizing sections clearly.

2. Remove repetitive or irrelevant content, such as the repeated company description and the placeholder prompt about skills matching, which do not add value to the job description itself.

3. Clarify the section about application questions by explicitly stating that salary expectations are part of the application process, without including the prompt about updating profiles.

Here's a refined version with improved structure and focus:

What you'll do:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of the group’s legal strategy in alignment with broader business objectives.
  • Manage relationships with external legal counsel, including engagement, case oversight, and quality control to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial and trading agreements, ensuring compliance with legal standards and internal policies.
  • Advise on regulatory matters related to product offerings, marketing, licensing, and other compliance requirements across key jurisdictions.
  • Develop, implement, and manage legal and compliance frameworks to support the company’s regulatory obligations and risk posture.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments relevant to the company’s operations and provide timely, strategic legal advice.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance team on licensing, product launches, regulatory reviews, and ongoing risk assessments.
  • Support internal legal training and awareness initiatives to promote sound risk management and regulatory compliance across teams.

What we're looking for:

  • Qualified lawyer in an English, Commonwealth, U.S., or European jurisdiction.
  • 3–5 years of post-qualification experience from top-tier law firms and/or financial institutions.
  • Strong background in providing regulatory advice to financial institutions, payments platforms, or fintech companies.
  • Familiarity with financial or crypto licensing processes and regulatory frameworks (e.g., FCA, VARA, MAS, HK SFC) is highly preferred.
  • Experience in non-contentious legal work; dispute resolution or litigation experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced, high-growth environments; start-up experience is advantageous.
  • Exceptional legal drafting, interpretation, and analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical approach to risk and compliance.
  • High standards of ethics, integrity, and accountability.
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin for collaboration with Chinese vendors.

Additional notes:

  • This role is fully onsite, requiring your presence in the office.
  • Application questions include expected salary, notice period, and Mandarin language proficiency.
