Job Description:
Based in Johor Bahru or Kuala Lumpur, the Legal Counsel will be a member of the DayOne Legal Team and has the following main responsibilities in supporting DayOne’s international expansion:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documents for project financing transactions, including facility agreements, loan agreements, mortgages, deeds, and other real estate-related contracts
- Conducting thorough due diligence on properties, titles, and other relevant legal matters to identify and mitigate potential risks
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as underwriting, asset management, and compliance, to ensure seamless and efficient real estate financing processes
- Advising business teams on the legal implications of real estate M&A decisions, including the structuring of transactions and the management of legal risks
- Providing legal advice on various legal matters (such as securities laws, privacy laws, intellectual property laws and other laws and regulations) relevant to the daily operations of the business
- Liaising with and managing external law firms / consultants
Requirements:
- An LLB degree or above from a reputable university in a common law jurisdiction
- Qualified to practice law in Singapore or Malaysia. Qualifications or experience practicing in other common law jurisdictions is a strong plus
- At least 4 years of experience in a major international law firm or top tier local law firm
- Prior relevant experience in project financing required
- Prior relevant experience in real estate and value-added telecommunications business preferred
- Native English speaker capable of speaking and reading Chinese, and command of basic MS Office software applications (e.g., Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
- Excellent English drafting skills and strong negotiation skills
- Mature, pragmatic, self-motivated, able to multiple-task and work independently and under pressure
- Hardworking, proactive and detail- and solution-oriented with a “can do” attitude
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, high integrity, business acumen and team player
