A leading company in Kuala Lumpur seeks a Legal and Compliance Officer to oversee compliance frameworks, manage risks, and ensure adherence to legal regulations. The ideal candidate will have a Law Degree and substantial experience in regulatory advisory within financial services or real estate. This role involves drafting contracts, liaising with regulatory bodies, and advising senior management on legal matters, requiring a solid understanding of corporate governance and risk management strategies.
Stay updated on legal developments across key areas (e.g. financial services, real estate, data protection, tax) and educate business units accordingly.
Develop strategic compliance frameworks and risk controls suited to the scale and complexity of the company.
Act as the main liaison with local and international regulatory bodies and maintain strong regulatory relationships.
Serve as first line of defense in compliance and risk management; advise on reputational and conduct risks.
Support business units in managing audits, investigations, and third-party information requests.
Lead drafting, interpretation, and management of contracts and legal documents.
Provide legal advisory support to the Board and Management on corporate and transactional matters.
Conduct legal research and analysis on regulatory, policy, and risk issues.
Maintain legal resources and document databases; develop templates and standard forms.
Facilitate due diligence and legal reviews in company dealings and corporate exercises.
Coordinate legal aspects of compliance with internal policies and transactional documentation.
Perform due diligence, validate documentation accuracy, and ensure operational compliance.
Prepare legal risk assessments and engage with external counsel and public offices as needed.
Ensure data protection compliance in handling corporate and transactional data.
Oversee legal workflows and resolve operational legal issues across business activities.
Assess legal support needs and assist in action planning with Management.
Report on legal aspects of transaction management to guide business unit performance.
Develop and deliver legal/regulatory training materials in collaboration with external counsel.
Evaluate regulatory impact of business strategies and provide feedback for continuity planning.
Advise on corporate governance; draft clear governance and policy documents.
Promote regulatory and governance awareness across business units.
Prepare internal communications on legal matters and ensure message clarity and consistency.
Implement and monitor legal documentation protocols and practices company-wide.
Maintain legal presentations, reports, contact lists, and relevant working documents.
Attend meetings, prepare legal analyses, and support legal systems implementation.
Research and present findings on legal issues relevant to the company’s work.
Handle ad-hoc legal requests from Management and the Board.
Serve as legal point of contact, triaging inquiries from internal and external parties.
Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all legal activities and communications.
Perform all duties with the highest level of discretion and care for confidentiality of transactions, information, and records.
