Job summary

A leading company in Malaysia is seeking a Legal Assistant with expertise in Employment Law, Industrial Relations, and Construction Law. The ideal candidate will handle contract preparations, support employee relations, and conduct legal research, ensuring compliance with various regulations. Candidates should hold a law degree and have 2-3 years of experience in a legal support role. Proficiency in multiple languages and strong analytical skills are essential for this position.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a legal support role, preferably in construction.
  • Solid knowledge of Malaysian employment laws including Employment Act 1955 and Industrial Relations Act 1967.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Chinese.

Job description

Legal Assistant(Employment Act , Industrial Relations Act & Construction Law)

· Assist in the preparation, vetting, and review of various contracts and agreements, including:

o Employment contracts, employee handbooks, and disciplinary procedures

o Subcontractor and supplier agreements, consultancy agreements, and NDAs

o Draft legal letters, warning notices, termination letters, show cause letters, and settlement agreements

2. Employment & Industrial Relations

· Provide support in handling employee relations issues in compliance with the Employment Act

1955, Industrial Relations Act 1967, and relevant labour laws

· Assist in internal investigations, domestic inquiries, and disciplinary proceedings

· Liaise with external legal counsel on employment litigation or industrial court matters

· Monitor changes in employment legislation and recommend necessary updates to HR policies and

procedures

3. Construction & Corporate Legal Matters

· Provide legal research and guidance on construction related matters, including CIDB regulations,

PAM/AIAC contracts, project dispute issues, and delay claims

· Assist in contract administration and compliance for ongoing and upcoming projects

· To assist, co-ordinate and work closely with external lawyers and other advisers on the preparation

of advices/briefs and reviewing cause papers and all relevant legal documents in connection with

the Group’s dispute resolution portfolio

· To represent and attend where necessary, the Group at court or tribunal proceedings

· To support and work with the team in rendering legal advice(s) to the Group and Management

· To assist the Legal team in preparation of necessary reports and legal updates for consideration of

Management

· Maintain legal documentation related to project approvals, regulatory submissions, insurance, and

contractor compliance

4. Research & Compliance

· Conduct legal research on relevant statutory laws, case law, and regulatory updates

· Support internal audits and ensure regulatory compliance with local authorities and legal standards

· Maintain legal files, records, and contract databases in an organized and confidential manner

Qualifications & Requirements:

· Diploma or Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) from a recognized institution.

· Minimum 2–3 years of working experience in a legal support role, preferably in a construction

company, legal firm, or corporate HR/legal department

· Solid knowledge of Malaysian employment laws, including:

o Employment Act 1955

o Industrial Relations Act 1967

o Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994

o Understanding of construction law, project contracts (e.g., PAM), and statutory obligations in the

construction industry (e.g., CIDB, DOSH)

· Familiarity with procedures involving the Labour Department, Industrial Court, and CIDB

· Strong drafting, research, and analytical skills

· High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism

· Excellent command of written and spoken English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese

· Proficient in Microsoft Office
