A leading company in the oil and gas sector is seeking a Lead Technologist for their refinery in Port Dickson, Malaysia. The role involves providing technical support, optimizing processes, and ensuring safety compliance. Ensure all activities are conducted and managed in accordance with the agreed Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices and procedures as outlined in the Refinery H.S.S.E. Management System.
Provide effective and efficient process technical support to the site, particularly in troubleshooting, optimization, and safe plant operation. Monitor Long Residue Catalytic Cracking (LRCC) plant performance against approved targets on a day-to-day basis, identify existing or potential technical issues, and respond appropriately to any threats.
Identify and implement specific projects or initiatives aimed at improving the safety, reliability, integrity, efficiency, operability, capacity, and margin of the LRCC plant.
Lead or participate in incident investigations and problem-solving activities as needed.
Serve as the primary interface between HRCPD Technology and Operations/Engineering teams to facilitate the implementation of plant changes, including best practices. Provide process technical support to other disciplines and functions for issues and work items related to the LRCC unit.
Act as the primary source of process technical information on LRCC plant design and operation.
Collaborate with the APC Engineer to troubleshoot and improve process control-related issues.
Provide process and operational input into process safety reviews, commissioning, and performance test runs of all plant changes. Contribute to process safety-related matters, including closure of PSA (Process Safety Assessment) action items.
[HEMP] – Hazard Effect Management Process: Critical Activities
Perform process engineering evaluations on plant changes initiated via MOC (Management of Change) or PDR (Plant Design Request), including but not limited to:
Define HEMP alarm setpoints, priorities, and operator actions.
Perform conceptual design for IPF (Instrumented Protective Function) safeguarding.
Initiate MOC for process-related plant changes and/or documentation updates.
As the MOC initiator, execute all plant changes in accordance with the HRC MOC procedure and notify the appropriate personnel of the changes.
When performing relief valve sizing, include scenarios involving fouling and/or liquid full conditions in the RV design considerations.
Perform proactive technical monitoring of safety-critical variables.
Modify set pressure and/or capacity of relief valves, as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience as a process engineer or technologist in an oil refinery, or in an equivalent role. Experience should include process engineering and design, optimization, and troubleshooting work in refining. A strong understanding of refinery configuration, integration, and economics is expected.
Familiarity with Management of Change (MOC) processes and procedures.
Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills.
Excellent analytical skills, with a proven ability to solve complex process issues.
