Job summary

Grab is seeking a Lead Engineer in Build Automation to shape CI pipelines and local development tools from its Petaling Jaya office, reporting to the Engineering Manager II in Singapore.

You will collaborate across Grab teams to drive innovation, improve reproducible builds, and support multiple languages and frameworks in a service-oriented transition.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Go and Python.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD concepts and GitLab CI.
• Knowledge of Nix, build isolation and reproducibility.
• Experience with AWS.
• Familiarity with observability tools (DataDog, Kibana, Grafana).
• Ability to create detailed technical documentation.
• Experience troubleshooting with users.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine GitLab CI pipelines and the Go/Python tools they depend on.

Get to Know the Team

Your team will be committed to developing and refining CI pipelines for backend services. We are embarking on an exciting transition from a monorepo to service-oriented repositories. This shift allows us to enhance our pipelines to accommodate a wider array of programming languages and frameworks. Additionally, we offer tools to prepare local development setups and are working towards aligning local and CI environments. Our team values collaboration, innovation, and mutual support, driving the productivity of all our fellow tech Grabbers.

Get to Know the Role

As a Lead Engineer in the Build Automation team, you will help shape and improve our CI pipelines and our tools for local development setup. You will collaborate with other Grabbers across teams and departments, driving innovation and promoting an environment of mutual support. You will influence the technical direction of our projects, contributing to the success of our engineering capabilities.

Our team operates across three locations in South East Asia. You will work from our Petaling Jaya office, and you will report to the Engineering Manager II in Singapore.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will develop and refine our GitLab CI pipelines and the Go and Python tools they depend on. Improve compatibility and efficiency for service-oriented repos.
• You will enhance our tools for local environment setup and updates, promoting reproducible builds with Go and Nix.
• You will engage with users to gather requirements, propose improvements, and provide technical support to solve their challenges.
• You will collaborate with the team to ensure our tools align with evolving project needs and industry standards.
• You will develop solutions to improve CI tools usability.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You have programming proficiency in Go and Python.
• You have 7+ years of professional experience in software development.
• You have experience with CI/CD concepts and their implementation in GitLab CI.
• You have knowledge of Nix, including the concepts of build isolation and reproducibility.
• You have professional experience with AWS.
• You have experience with observability. We use DataDog for metrics, Kibana for logs, and Grafana for traces.
• You have experience creating detailed technical documentation.
• You have experience troubleshooting issues with users.
