An engineering firm is seeking a Lead Piping Engineer based in Malaysia to lead piping activities for large-scale oil and gas projects. An excellent opportunity for an experienced Lead Piping Engineer to lead a multi-discipline piping team in delivering complex engineering solutions across large-scale oil & gas or petrochemical projects. You will be responsible for all technical and coordination aspects of piping activities, ensuring the successful execution of design, planning, quality, and HSE deliverables across the project lifecycle.
You’ll act as the technical lead and primary point of contact for piping matters within the project team, ensuring deliverables meet contractual and internal quality expectations.
Planning & Budgeting
Develop piping manpower plans and deliverable lists in collaboration with department and planning teams
Review project schedules (Level 2 & 3) and contribute to progress milestone identification
Measure and report on progress periodically
Manage timesheets and leave requests for the piping team (optional)
Review project scope contracts to determine deliverables
Oversee change requests through internal design change management systems
Execution
Distribute and manage access to key project documents for the piping team
Prepare and review design specifications, instructions, and standards
Develop project-specific work instructions and design readiness checklists
Drive model readiness for reviews and support isometric extraction planning
Coordinate with 3D administrators, material leads, and stress teams as needed
Monitor vendor documentation and ensure proper distribution of all documents
Lead internal progress meetings and represent the team in client/project meetings
Coordinate with procurement/fabrication teams to supply relevant MTOs and specs
Review and approve design deliverables, including pipe supports and isometrics
Address field queries, support as-built activities, and liaise on engineering clarifications
Quality & HSE
Ensure quality standards are met in line with project procedures and departmental guidelines
Support and attend 3D model reviews and internal piping audits as needed
Contribute to project HSE requirements and promote best practices
Archiving & Close-Out
Oversee digital archiving of project deliverables
Prepare close-out reports including project statistics, design changes, and material summaries
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum 15 years’ experience in oil & gas, offshore, petrochemical, or floater projects
Proven track record in leading piping design teams through FEED, detailed design, and EPC phases
Strong technical expertise in piping systems, layout design, and code compliance
Skilled in 2D and 3D CAD tools; knowledge of E3D/S3D is a plus
Able to make independent decisions and represent discipline in client meetings
Strong leadership, coordination, vendor interface, and time management abilities
Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)
Familiar with piping and equipment codes and standards
Organised, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task effectively
Proactive, collaborative, and committed to delivering high-quality work
Professional Engineer with a practising certificate
Experience in macros or scripting/programming languages
Strong command of E3D or S3D platforms
