Job summary

A leading company in the Oil & Gas industry is seeking a Lead Operations Geologist in Sarawak. This role involves overseeing geological operations during drilling campaigns, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and managing third-party geological services. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and extensive experience in offshore operations, particularly in high-angle and horizontal wells.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience as Operations and/or Wellsite Geologist.
  • Registered with the Malaysian Board of Geologists (BOG).
  • Experience in HPHT and deepwater drilling.

Job description

Position : Lead Operations Geologist

Industry : Oil & Gas

Location : Sarawak

Scope of Work(s):

  • Act as the focal point for all geological operations during drilling campaigns (exploration and development).
  • Supervise and provide quality control for all wellsite geology activities including mudlogging, wireline logging, LWD/MWD, coring, and formation pressure testing/sampling.
  • Oversee and QC wireline operations such as formation pressure testing, sidewall coring, and seismic data acquisition.
  • Manage and coordinate LWD/FPWD programs, particularly in high-angle and horizontal wells.
  • Monitor geological operations to ensure compliance with drilling programs, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with drilling, subsurface, and service provider teams to ensure efficient communication and data integration.
  • Contribute to post-well studies and lookback reviews, providing insights and recommendations for future wells.
  • Support contract management and performance monitoring for third-party geological services (e.g. Mudlogging, Wireline, LWD vendors).
  • Maintain detailed records and geological documentation in compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.

Requirement(s):

  • Bachelors Degree in Geology, Geosciences, Earth Sciences or related discipline.
  • Registered with the Malaysian Board of Geologists (BOG) (copy of certificate required).
  • Minimum 710 years of experience as an Operations and/or Wellsite Geologist.
  • At least 35 years of recent (within the past 10 years) experience supervising offshore operations in Malaysia.
  • Proven experience in:
    • HPHT and deepwater drilling environments.
    • Both clastic and carbonate lithologies.
    • High-angle and horizontal well drilling.
    • Supervising formation pressure testing and sampling.
  • Strong understanding of geosteering, real-time data interpretation, and geological risk mitigation.
  • Experience with geological software and real-time data platforms is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
