Job summary

Dyson is seeking a Lead Engineer, Systems Performance Modelling to join our global development campus in Malaysia. You will drive performance analysis for floorscare, robots, and environment care products, integrating simulation, testing, and engineering judgment to meet ambitious targets.

You will collaborate with design teams, travel for knowledge transfer, and progressively assume greater responsibility in performance simulations and process improvements while contributing to project plans

Qualifications

  • University Degree or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (other relevant discipline will be considered)
  • Higher level knowledge of simulation, numerical analysis, and modelling
  • Good experience of experimental methodology & analysis techniques

Responsibilities

  • Take increased levels of responsibility to deliver support / guidance to assigned projects for performance simulation related activities
  • Recognise technical risks relating to the technical discipline within projects and suggest actions to mitigate these risks
  • Contribute to defining new processes & methods, improving our methodologies & practices
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and implement them where appropriate
  • Collaborate with departments across site (UK, MY, SG & PH) and travel for project/knowledge transfer as needed

That’s where the Technology Development team comes in.

We are looking for talented Simulation Engineer – Performance to join our RDD Technology Development team, to support the development of our new Floorcare, Robots, and Environment Care products.

Working as part of a small team you will be responsible for the product performance analysis. You will be working alongside the design and functional teams to create new ways to measure and predict key performance parameters; and ensure that our technologies are up to meeting their ambitious targets. You will use a mixture of simulation, test and engineering judgement to solve the problems that arise as we develop our technologies and products. You will work alongside your UK counterparts to pick projects up from an early design stage and take them through to production.

What you will do:
  • Takes increased levels of responsibility to deliver support / guidance to assigned projects for performance simulation related activities
  • Ability to recognise technical risks relating to technical discipline within project. Expectation to understand implications & to suggest specific actions to mitigate these risks. Able to contribute in FMEA sessions
  • More detailed, increased complexity of simulations. May be involved with defining new processes & methods
  • Proactively search out & identify areas for improvement in our methodologies & practices. There is an added expectation to propose improvements, actively implementing when appropriate to do so
  • Work closely with various department across site (UK, MY, SG & PH); with the opportunity to travel aboard for project & knowledge transfer
Requirement:

University Degree or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (other relevant discipline will be considered)

Skills:
  • Higher level knowledge of simulation, numerical analysis, and modelling. (Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Particle Science & Acoustics)
  • Higher level user of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation tools (ANSYS, Fluent, CFX, etc.)
  • Higher level user of modelling tools (Matlab, Simulink & Simscape, etc.)
  • Good experience of experimental methodology & analysis techniques
Performance & Personal Competencies:
  • Ability to gather information & solve problem with a systematic & logical approach. Expected to be able to solve problems effectively whilst managing stakeholders’ expectations.
  • Ability to put together & agree a defined project plan to deliver expected work for any given project; regularly readdressing & acting on shifting priorities & delivering work accordingly.
  • Will have evidence of strong written & verbal communication skills. Ability to clearly, concisely & confidently present & articulate ideas to larger peer group, often cross-category. Proficient in communicating ideas & concepts. Starting to develop ability to tailor communication to suit different levels & persuade/influence others as needed.
  • Willing to receive constructive feedback & coaching, responding in an appropriate & professional manner. Is able to provide constructive feedback, technical oversight & mentorship to more junior members of team in technical discipline.
  • Demonstrates effective collaboration & co-operation skills, usually involving stakeholders with similar goals with familiar & less-challenging collaborators.
  • Able to work independently with infrequent, periodic input & guidance on assigned tasks. Little supervision needed
  • Taking more of an active role in positively contributing to team goals as well as a greater level of responsibility for defined individual & team initiatives.
