Job Description

Position Overview:

• Lead the design, engineering, and technical development of new products and features.
• Oversee the entire innovation process, ensuring adherence to specifications, requirements, testing, safety standards, performance benchmarks, quality metrics, predictive ratings, and clear communication with key stakeholders.
• Drive the development of innovative floorcare products, collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and test new technologies and features.
• Utilise expertise in engineering, project management, innovation, and problem-solving to bring groundbreaking products to market.

Product Development & Innovation:

• Lead technical development of new products, ensuring effective communication and timely execution according to Global Product Development process and related R&D procedures.
• Establish complete requirements and technical specifications for new products at the right stages of development, ensuring proper documentation.
• Collaborate with the Quality Team to integrate quality into product development.
• Manage outsourced work from specification creation to post-evaluation, ensuring successful completion.
• Maintain regular communication with teams in the US, Singapore, and China.
• Provide guidance on 3D CAD, engineering drawings, prototype builds, engineering builds, and product evaluations.
• Apply knowledge in 3D CAD, engineering drawings, and manufacturing processes like plastic injection molding, machining, and consumer product assembly.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and travel when necessary.
• Prepare and present updates, findings, and recommendations during the innovation phase review.
• Conduct research into new technologies, components, materials, and market trend.

Process & Planning:

• Ensure adherence to Innovation and Global Product Development processes for new and updated products.
• Efficiently allocate development resources to support approved projects across development sites.
• Collaborate with suppliers to ensure alignment with the innovation and product development program.
• Contribute to setting and executing departmental goals.
• Manage project budgets and ensure alignment with financial expectations.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to boost efficiency in design and development, reduce development time, and improve quality and reliability while cutting costs.

Team Leadership:

• Structure the team to meet business needs, collaborating with Program Management to allocate resources effectively.
• Work with HR to recruit top talent for the team across various development sites.
• Provide technical mentor-ship and guidance to junior engineers and team members.
• Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration, enhancing the reputation of development engineering as a reliable and efficient function within the company.
• Assist with the management and administrative duties.

The Successful Applicant

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required, preferably in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, industrial, or manufacturing engineering.

  8 to 15+ years of experience in a technical environment, with 3 to 8+ years leading technical and engineering teams in consumer appliance product design and development, preferably floorcare products.
• 
  
  Strong foundation in engineering principles and technical project management.
• 
  
  Proven leadership skills in mentoring and overseeing technical teams.
• 
  
  Successful track record of projects across multiple locations, ideally in an international company.
• 
  
  Excellent communication skills, able to work with global teams and individuals from various countries.
• 
  
  Proficient in 3D CAD, engineering drawing standards, prototype, and engineering builds.
• 
  
  Ability to collaborate with individuals at all levels within an organisation.
• 
  
  Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• 
  
  Experience with structured innovation methodologies such as TRIZ, DFSS, or similar approaches is a plus.
• 
  
  Knowledge of data analytics and AI applications in product development is an advantage.
