Job Description:
We are seeking a talented and motivated Laboratory Manager to join our dynamic team. As a Laboratory Manager at Huluppu Biosciences, you will play a key role in supporting our research and development efforts.

You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the advancement of our technology platform.

Key Responsibilities:

Lab Operations Management:

· Oversee the day-to-day operations of the molecular and bioprocessing laboratory.

· Ensure the lab is fully equipped with the necessary tools, reagents, and supplies.

· Maintain and enforce laboratory safety protocols in accordance with company and regulatory standards.

· Develop, implement, and optimize laboratory workflows and procedures for molecular biology and bioprocessing tasks.

· Ensure timely and accurate execution of experiments, including planning and scheduling.

Laboratory Management Information System (LMIS):

· Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of the Laboratory Management Information System (LMIS).

· Ensure LMIS effectively supports laboratory operations, including tracking sample data, managing inventory, and storing experimental results.

· Train laboratory personnel on proper use of the LMIS and monitor system compliance.

· Ensure that LMIS integrates seamlessly with other laboratory and company systems (e.g., ERP, LIMS, and inventory management software).

Regulatory Compliance and Business Licenses:

· Ensure compliance with relevant regulations such as MBIP (Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri), DOE (Department of Environment), DOSH (Department of Occupational Safety and Health), DOA (Department of Agriculture), MIDA (Malaysian Investment Development Authority), RMC (Royal Malaysia Customs), Biosafety Department and other relevant regulatory bodies to ensure the lab’s operations meet the standards set by regulatory authorities.

· Coordinate the application, renewal, and maintenance of business licenses required for laboratory operations.

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in regulatory requirements and facilitate the company’s ongoing compliance with local and national regulations.

Import Duty and SST Compliance:

· Oversee the importation of laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies, ensuring compliance with import duty regulations.

· Work closely with the finance and customs teams to ensure proper import documentation and payment of import duties, as per Royal Malaysia Customs requirements.

· Ensure compliance with Sales and Service Tax (SST) regulations by monitoring laboratory purchases and ensuring the correct application of SST.

· Liaise with suppliers, customs officials, and relevant stakeholders to ensure timely customs clearance and minimize delays in laboratory operations due to import-related issues.

· Ensure the appropriate documentation and record-keeping are in place to comply with import duty and SST audit requirements.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

· Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure experimental results are accurate and reproducible.

· Monitor lab activities and ensure they align with company objectives and regulatory standards.

Inventory and Equipment Management:

· Manage laboratory inventory, ensuring timely procurement of reagents, consumables, and equipment in a cost-effective manner.

· Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.

· Ensure equipment and supplies are stored, tracked, and disposed of following proper protocols.

Budget and Resource Management:

· Assist in budget preparation and financial tracking for laboratory operations.

· Ensure efficient resource utilization, minimizing waste and costs.

Data Management and Reporting:

· Ensure proper documentation of experiments, results, and processes within the LMIS.

· Analyze data and prepare reports for senior management and stakeholders.

· Assist in preparing scientific publications and presentations when needed.

· Contribute to project development by providing feedback on experiment designs and results.

Research & Development Support:

· Assist in the development and execution of research projects related to molecular biology and bioprocessing.

· Support the scale-up of bioprocessing workflows from bench to pilot-scale operations.

· Collaborate with other departments (e.g., R&D, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs) on project initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education:

· A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Bioprocessing, Biotechnology, or a related field is required. A Ph.D. is a plus.

Experience:

· At least 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

· Experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gene expression analysis, DNA/RNA extraction, cloning) and bioprocessing (e.g., cell culture, fermentation, downstream processing) is required.

· Familiarity with regulatory standards in a laboratory setting.

· Proven experience with Laboratory Management Information Systems (LMIS), including implementation, optimization, and troubleshooting.

· Direct experience with the business license application process and compliance requirements for agencies such as MBIP, DOE, DOSH, DOA, MIDA, RMC (Royal Malaysia Customs), and others.

· Experience in handling import duties and Sales and Service Tax (SST) compliance, particularly in the context of laboratory imports and operations.

Certifications:

· Certification in Laboratory Management (e.g., CLM, or other relevant certifications) is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.

· Knowledge of data management systems and laboratory information management systems (LIMS and LMIS).

· Experience with bioprocess scale-up and technology transfer.
