To work as part of the DT department to support learning by providing technical assistance through the preparation and maintenance of teaching areas and equipment for pupils. As and when needed, may also assist other departments within the Taylors Educational Group.

KEY RESULT AREAS / RESPONSIBILITIES

• Preparation for lessons - liaising with teachers to ensure materials and equipment are provided for lessons as requested and securely stored afterwards.
• Maintenance of equipment including risk management, cleaning, replacement of parts, periodic servicing and repairing.
• Maintenance of stock - organization of store-cupboards, security, maintenance of inventory and replacement of consumable stock. Ordering, receiving and cataloguing of materials and equipment.
• Safely and securely store allocated equipment and materials to prevent unauthorized access/misuse.
• Clean and undertake maintenance of equipment as needed and as directed to ensure that it is clean and in good working order.
• Undertake record keeping, as directed.
• Ensure the safe treatment and disposal of used materials, including hazardous substances and respond to actual or potential hazards.
• Assist staff and students with queries in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.
• Ensuring that health and safety procedures are followed at all times and that all laboratories are maintained in a safe and healthy manner.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislative requirements and school policies and procedures including, Data Protection, Child Protection and Safeguarding etc.
• Ensure all practices relating to security, fire and emergency are observed.
• Will be regularly exposed to dirt, fumes, chemicals and possibly hazardous materials. You will be regularly working with potentially dangerous equipment. There is a high degree of manual handling involved and the post holder will need to be dexterous and able to assemble, disassemble & clean machinery and equipment.
• Following any additional training as instructed

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• A Diploma qualification in a related area e.g. engineering, electrician, joinery etc.
• 2 years laboratory experience.
• Able to commence work in May 2025
• Reliability, initiative and ability to work without supervision.
• Adaptability and the ability to work within a team (with other laboratory staff and with teachers) to achieve common goals.
• Ability to liaise with different departments (Finance, Facilities, etc) with professionalism.
• Ability to work in high pressure situations where effective time management and organisation is crucial (for eg. Preparing for external exams).
• Effective time management and organizational skills to manage uneven distribution of workload.
• Ability to communicate with and work effectively with students & associates.
• A good command of spoken and written English (to communicate effectively with teachers and understand installation and maintenance instructions of equipment written in English).
• An awareness and recognition of the importance of Health and Safety.
• Ability to communicate in Malay and knowledge of local sources of material.
• DT competence and a basic understanding of basic office and google docs applications.
• Must be well aware about the rules and regulations of laboratory settings.
• Willing to attend training sessions to improve knowledge and seek out courses related to job.
• Willing to support IGCSE DT classes and work with students to realise their product.
• To study and be willing to Learn Cambridge requirements for Design at IGCSE.
• To liaise with other colleagues in TEG to network and develop strong working relationships.
