What’s the role

The Lab Analyst Trainee role interfaces with both internal and external stakeholders, manage the provision of Analytical Chemistry services to SMEP Production Assets to safeguard technical integrity and reliability, and execute “Ensure Quality Product (EQP)” process and ensure SMEP’s products always meet specifications and legislative requirements.

What you’ll be doing

Apart from interacting with internal and external stakeholders, you will also be accountable for the following:

  • Execute routine and non-routine testing and analysis tasks in the laboratory.
  • Execute resource movement coordination as required.
  • Sustain lab operation SOPs, competency, and resources.
  • Ensure safe lab operations through proper work planning, risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping of the laboratory.
  • Learn new analytical techniques when required.
  • Commissioning of new equipment in the lab and learn on how to use it.
  • Sustain accreditation to ISO 17025.
  • Manage HSSE risks in the laboratory and at site.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and help to implement approved solutions.
  • Execute structured sampling and testing.
  • LIMS user and sustaining LIMS skill.
  • Responding to ever changing demands on short notice and to be able to work under pressure arising from operational uncertainties and project deadlines to be met.
  • Managing activities in accordance with HSSE policies, quality standards and statutory regulations.
  • Work on weekend and standby when required.
  • Work offshore on ad hoc basis

What you bring

We are keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry or equivalent
  • Fresh graduates encourage to apply
  • Willing to work on a short-term contract
  • Less than 2 years of experience
  • Skill in applying laboratory analysis data for field application
  • Good written and verbal skills of English
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to transfer Production Chemistry knowledge/advice to non-chemists
  • Experience in LIMS Sample Manager or in ISO17025 accredited laboratory is an added advantage but not mandatory
  • Flexible to be mobilized in other Shell Malaysia laboratories on temporary basis
