Group Legal Counsel - Global Energy & Technology Company

Our client - a Global Energy & Technology Company is currently looking for a Group Legal Counsel to be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The primary focus of the role is to provide comprehensive legal support with a focus on maritime law and to assist the Group Legal Team in the general management of legal, corporate, contract and commercial matters, ensuring compliance, and mitigating risks associated with company's business operations.

The Role:

  • Report directly to a Head of Legal at a Group level
  • Great Exposure to the Leadership team
  • Being a Key Legal Driver and Business Partner to the Senior Management team

The Responsibilities:

  • To draft, review and facilitate negotiations on commercial contracts and agreements.
  • To co-ordinate legal matters with other departments / disciplines.
  • To liaise with and instruct external counsel.
  • Providinglegalsupporttoanydepartmentwithinthecompanywhenrequired.
  • Negotiating, writing and executing agreements and contracts on behalf of the company.
  • Advising on contract status, legal risks, and the legal liabilities associated with different deals.
  • Providing training to the company on legal topics.
  • Willing to travel - some travel may be required to countries where we have presence, such as Singapore, South America, Europe, Africa, India and etc.

About You:

  • Degree in law from a reputable university.
  • Admitted to a professional body preferably of a common law jurisdiction.
  • Between 5 -8 years post qualification experience, with at least 4-5 years spent in private practice.
  • Well versed in general corporate and commercial law, with specialty in maritime law.
  • Wide experience in contract drafting.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
