Job summary

EUROFINS GSC IT MALAYSIA SDN. BHD. is seeking an IT Database Administrator to install, configure, secure, and optimize database platforms ensuring availability, performance, recoverability, and integrity.

You will manage lifecycle activities, implement backup and disaster recovery controls, and support application teams. The ideal candidate has 3-5 years in database administration, hands-on MSSQL and PostgreSQL, Windows and Linux proficiency, and experience with Azure and ITSM tools.

Qualifications

• At least 3-5 years of professional experience in database administration.
• Experience with MSSQL and PostgreSQL (both mandatory).
• Experience with Windows and Linux platforms.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure.
• Experience with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, BMC Helix, or JIRA.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Practical knowledge of relational database platforms, SQL and query-performance analysis, backup, restore, and disaster recovery methods.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and upgrade MSSQL and PostgreSQL database servers
• Create, modify, and maintain database objects, including tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures
• Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies
• Develop and maintain backup strategies
• Implement and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions, including replication, clustering, and failover technologies to ensure data integrity and availability
• Implement and maintain database security and compliance controls, including role-based access controls, permissions, and encryption
• Ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)
• Continuously monitor and optimize database performance, capacity, and resource utilization
• Administer and support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and other database-related Azure services where applicable
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies to reduce operational effort and improve reliability

Job description

We are seeking an IT Database Administrator who will be responsible for installing, configuring, securing, maintaining, and optimizing database platforms to ensure their availability, performance, recoverability, and integrity. The role manages database lifecycle activities, implements backup and disaster recovery controls, monitors and resolves database-related issues, and provides technical support to application and development teams.

Key responsibilities

Install, configure, and upgrade MSSQL and PostgreSQL database servers

Create, modify, and maintain database objects, including tables, indexes, views, and stored procedures

Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies

Develop and maintain backup strategies

Implement and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions, including replication, clustering, and failover technologies to ensure data integrity and availability

Implement and maintain database security and compliance controls, including role-based access controls, permissions, and encryption

Ensure compliance with applicable data protection regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.)

Continuously monitor and optimize database performance, capacity, and resource utilization

Administer and support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and other database-related Azure services where applicable

Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies to reduce operational effort and improve reliability

Technical competencies include practical knowledge of relational database platforms; SQL and query-performance analysis; backup, restore, and disaster recovery methods; access control, encryption, and database security; monitoring and troubleshooting tools; and scripting or automation used for repeatable administrative tasks.

About you

At least 3-5 years of professional experience in database administration

Experience with MSSQL and PostgreSQL (both mandatory)

Experience with Windows and Linux platforms

Experience with Microsoft Azure

Experience with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, BMC Helix, or JIRA

Experience with monitoring tools such as Grafana

Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform

Practical knowledge of relational database platforms, SQL and query-performance analysis, backup, restore, and disaster recovery methods

Ability to communicate technical issues, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Professional proficiency in written and spoken English
