Job description

About the Role

This role is responsible for financial operations across a hybrid infrastructure environment that includes public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises data centers. It exists to create a single, consistent view of technology spend by aligning capital and operating cost models across the full infrastructure estate. You will partner with DevOps, Engineering, Finance, and leadership to move the function beyond reporting and into cost accountability, unit economics, and decision support. The work centers on helping technical and business stakeholders understand where spend is going, what drives it, and how to improve it. The position also supports strategic infrastructure decisions through cost analysis, vendor evaluation, budgeting, forecasting, and risk awareness. Its impact is measured by better allocation, stronger forecast accuracy, improved utilization, and more effective cost control across workloads and platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead infrastructure financial management across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Assess existing infrastructure to identify cost optimization opportunities across data centers, networks, servers, storage, and cloud platforms.
  • Evaluate vendor platforms and solutions, including due diligence, RFP support, and contract negotiation.
  • Build business cases for strategic investments using ROI, TCO, and risk analysis.
  • Own the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting cycle for infrastructure, including usage growth, amortization, and software renewals.
  • Develop and maintain a normalized TCO model across cloud and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Define workload placement policies to guide the most cost-effective execution location.
  • Manage cloud commitment programs and discount mechanisms across providers.
  • Reduce waste and support rightsizing efforts with engineering teams.
  • Allocate shared Kubernetes, container, IaaS, and traditional infrastructure costs to the correct products or teams.
  • Calculate fully loaded on-premises compute and storage costs for comparison with public cloud pricing.
  • Support capacity planning and utilization improvement to avoid unnecessary hardware spend.
  • Compare maintenance and refresh economics for aging on-premises hardware.
  • Enforce a global tagging and allocation approach across cloud and on-premises assets.
  • Deliver dashboards that give engineering teams near real-time spend visibility.
  • Educate engineering and finance teams on cost-aware architecture and technical cost drivers.
  • Identify business and regulatory compliance risks and help mitigate them.
  • Monitor regulatory, security, and technology trends that may affect infrastructure strategy.
Required Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in IT Finance, Cloud Operations, or FinOps, with hybrid environment exposure.
  • Deep knowledge of pricing and billing for at least one major cloud provider: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Understanding of data center economics, including depreciation, VMware licensing, and facilities costs.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting concepts, including CapEx vs. OpEx, amortization, and EBITDA impact.
  • Proficiency with FinOps/ITFM tools and native cloud cost consoles.
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • Ability to negotiate with software and hardware vendors.
  • Ability to explain technical cost drivers to Finance and financial constraints to Engineers.
  • Experience managing business and regulatory compliance risk.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • SQL experience.
  • Basic Python or scripting skills for API-based data extraction.
  • Certifications referenced include FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP), AWS Cloud Practitioner, and ITIL 4 Foundation (Service Financial Management).
Cloud Platforms & Technologies
  • Cloud Providers: AWS, Oracle, Azure, GCP
  • FinOps / ITFM Tools: Apptio, Cloudability, CloudHealth, Kubecost, native cloud cost consoles
  • Containers & Kubernetes: Kubernetes, containers

  • Programming & Scripting: Python, scripting
  • Data & Analytics: SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Excel, Google Sheets
  • Infrastructure Models: public cloud, private cloud, IaaS, on-premises data centers
FinOps Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a TCO model that normalizes fixed and variable infrastructure costs.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting for infrastructure spend.
  • Set workload placement rules based on cost efficiency.
  • Manage cloud discounts and commitment programs such as Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and EDPs.
  • Identify waste, orphaned assets, and idle resources; drive rightsizing actions.
  • Allocate shared container and infrastructure costs to specific products or teams.
  • Define and enforce tagging and allocation standards across environments.
