Job description

We are hiring for one of our portfolio companies. This is an on-site role. The business is based in Malaysia, and the role is focused on cruise operations across Asia.

Position Title – IT Manager – Shipboard Systems & Connectivity

Location: Johor, Malaysia (onshore pre-launch; onboard post-launch)

Target Markets: Asia

We are recruiting an IT Manager for a portfolio company, an Asian cruise hospitality company. The IT Manager will report to the CEO and oversee all onboard IT infrastructure and systems, including those supporting guest services, gaming operations, and marine connectivity. This role is based onshore in Johor during the pre-launch and refit period, and will transition to a full-time onboard position once the ship enters operation.

Responsibilities in first 12 months
  • Lead the full setup and commissioning of ship-wide IT infrastructure, covering hotel systems, guest services, entertainment systems, and core marine connectivity
  • Design and implement network architecture across all decks, ensuring coverage, segmentation, and performance across guest, crew, casino, and operations
  • Deploy and manage shipboard connectivity through maritime satellite solutions, with bandwidth allocation across business-critical systems
  • Oversee installation and integration of systems supporting hotel operations (e.g. PMS, POS, access control), entertainment systems (e.g. surveillance), and marine operations (communications, bridge integration, monitoring)
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors during refit to ensure timely delivery, testing, and acceptance of all IT-related systems
  • Implement cybersecurity and risk controls in compliance with international maritime and data standards
  • Manage onboard IT operations post-launch, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and long-term planning
  • Support guest-facing technologies such as internet packages, mobile apps, IPTV, and entertainment systems
  • Develop system documentation, SOPs, and onboard IT support capabilities
Requirements
  • 5–10 years of IT leadership experience in hotel and resorts, cruise, ferry, hospitality, and/ or enterprise marine environments
  • Experience overseeing large-scale infrastructure deployments, including gaming IT systems and marine connectivity
  • Familiarity with shipboard enterprise systems across hotel, entertainment, and operational domains
  • Strong networking and systems knowledge, including switching, VLANs, cybersecurity, and high-availability architecture
  • Prior experience with dry dock, refit, or newbuild technical deployment preferred
  • Ability to work and live onboard during operational periods
  • Fluent in English; Mandarin or Bahasa a plus
  • Based in Malaysia with regular onboard presence required
