Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Import/Export Coordination: Oversee and manage the end-to-end import/export process, including documentation, customs clearance, and transportation of goods.
• Compliance and Regulation Management: Ensure all imports and exports comply with local, international, and regulatory requirements, including trade tariffs, customs procedures, and import/export restrictions. Stay up to date with trade compliance laws and international regulations to ensure the company operates within legal boundaries.
• International Trade Compliance: Manage and enforce international trade compliance policies to ensure adherence to global trade laws and regulations, including sanctions, embargoes, and export control laws. Regularly audit and assess the company's trade practices to ensure compliance and mitigate any risks of fines or penalties.
• Tariff Spending Optimization: Develop strategies to optimize tariff expenses and minimize costs related to duties and taxes. Work with internal teams to ensure the proper classification of goods, leverage free trade agreements, and identify opportunities to reduce tariffs through strategic planning.
• Documentation Management: Prepare and review necessary documentation (e.g., commercial invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, packing lists, and import/export declarations) to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
• Customs Clearance: Work closely with customs brokers to facilitate the smooth and efficient clearance of goods through customs, resolving any issues related to classification, duty, or tariffs.
• Logistics Coordination: Coordinate logistics with freight forwarders, carriers, and warehouse teams to ensure timely and cost-effective movement of goods. Ensure that transportation routes are efficient and compliant with regulations.
• Vendor and Supplier Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and problem resolution.
• Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to international shipments, including compliance issues, delays, and damaged goods. Implement processes to minimize risks and ensure timely delivery.
• Budget and Cost Control: Manage the budget for imports and exports, ensuring that costs are controlled and within company guidelines. Negotiate rates and contracts with service providers to obtain favorable terms.
• Data Management and Reporting: Maintain accurate records and data related to import/export transactions, shipments, and inventory. Provide regular reports to senior management regarding shipping activities, costs, and compliance.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and lead a team of logistics and customs staff, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth daily operations. Foster a collaborative team environment.
• Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve import/export processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure compliance with regulatory changes. Propose improvements to optimize operations and reduce potential delays or compliance risks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field (preferred).
• Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in import/export management, customs brokerage, or a related field, with a solid understanding of international shipping regulations, customs requirements, and supply chain management.
• Certifications (Preferred): Certification in Customs Brokerage, Import/Export Compliance, or related fields (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist - CCS, or other relevant certifications).

SKILLS:

• In-depth knowledge of import/export regulations, trade laws, and logistics processes.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficiency in logistics management software, Oracle systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Language Skills (Optional but Preferred): Multilingual skills are a plus, particularly Mandarin, Spanish, or other languages relevant to key trade regions.
