Job summary

Airswift is seeking an experienced Hull Structural Lead in Kuala Lumpur to lead hull and appurtenance design for floater projects. You will drive design philosophies, basis of design, and detailed reviews, coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and regulators.

You will manage weight control, 3D model coordination, and deliverables across a global project team, ensuring compliance and robust technical solutions.

Qualifications

• Recognised degree in Naval Architecture, Civil, Marine Technology or related field.
• Minimum 8 years in hull/structural design for floaters.
• 2+ years in new-build hulls or tanker-to-floater conversions (FPSO/FLNG).
• Experience with inspection and assessment strategies for vessels.

Job description

Job Title: Hull Structural Lead Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This opportunity is suited to an experienced engineering professional supporting hull structural design for floater projects, including new build and tanker conversion environments. The role focuses on design philosophies, basis of design, detailed engineering review, structural assessment, and technical coordination across subcontractors, vendors, and regulatory interfaces. It offers strong technical scope across hull and appurtenance engineering, 3D model coordination, weight control, and project delivery support.

Required Education

Recognised B.Sc. or B.E. degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent, such as Naval Architecture, Civil, Marine Technology, or a related field.

Required Experience

Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in engineering design for hull and appurtenance structural scope for floaters. Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in the design and engineering of new build hulls and conversion of existing oil tankers to floaters such as F(P)SO and FLNG. Experience supporting inspection and assessment strategies for candidate vessels and evaluating RLEC conditions for project suitability. Experience reviewing detailed design engineering deliverables and managing design changes through technical evaluation and change control processes.

Required Skills

Strong capability in developing project-specific design philosophies, basis of design, functional specifications, calculation analysis, material take-offs, bills of quantities, and scope of work documentation for hull structural RLEC. Ability to review subcontractor and specialist engineering deliverables and provide technical feedback in line with project requirements, operational needs, and applicable regulations. Experience coordinating engineering data exchange across disciplines, subcontractors, vendors, contractors, and regulatory authorities. Ability to support 3D model coordination and weight control through accurate and reliable engineering data. Capability to resolve site technical queries, provide technical clarifications, and support follow‑on engineering and yard activities during project execution. Competence in relevant analysis software such as SESAM Genie, SACS, FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABS FPSO Eagle ISE/TSA, MARS2000, and VeriSTAR HULL.

Required Certifications

Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, Malaysia Board of Technology, as a minimum at Graduate Engineer level, or registered with another recognised professional body such as UK Council.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineer with or without Practising Certificate. Professional Technologist registration. Registration with a recognised professional body.
