The High School World languages (Chinese) Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality language instruction to HS students, where they develop proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding a foreign language through effective instruction and use of a variety of teaching methods and resources. The job purpose is also to ensure that ISKL students are prepared for the IB and AP exams and can apply their language skills in real-life situations.

RESPONSIBILITIES inclusive but not limited to:

Plan and deliver effective and engaging language lessons that align with ISKL’s curriculum and language acquisition standards

Develop and deliver engaging and challenging lessons that align with Curriculum Standards (including the IB)

Develop and use appropriate assessment tools to evaluate students' progress and provide constructive feedback on their performance

Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support a positive learning environment for students and to ensure that language acquisition instruction is integrated into other areas of the curriculum

Use a variety of instructional methods and materials to accommodate diverse learning needs and styles

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about students' progress and development in language acquisition

Participate in professional development opportunities to improve teaching skills and stay up-to-date on best practices in language acquisition instruction

Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration

Technical skills

The teacher must be able to plan and deliver effective and engaging language lessons that incorporate a variety of instructional methods and materials, including technology

Be able to develop, review, and modify curriculum to align with language standards and support the school's goals.

Be able to manage the classroom effectively, ensuring a safe and positive learning environment, while also creating opportunities for student participation and engagement in the learning process

The teacher must be familiar with and comfortable using technology to enhance language instruction, including tools such as online resources, multimedia, and educational apps

The teacher must be able to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with different learning styles and abilities

The teacher needs to be able to develop and use appropriate assessment tools to evaluate students' progress and provide constructive feedback on their performance. This includes formative and summative assessments

Must be able to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff to support a positive learning environment for students, as well as communicate regularly with parents about students' progress and development in the language and reviewing students' placement examinations and making placement recommendations

Personal attributes

The teacher should have a strong understanding and appreciation of different cultures and be able to incorporate this into their teaching

Be a self-starter, independent, problem-solver, flexible, and hardworking

Be able to think creatively, communicate effectively, reason critically, collaborate constructively, and learn enthusiastically

Willingness to participate in extracurricular activities and school events.

Demonstrated ability to develop community and generate trust while working with others

Qualifications and experiences preferred:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, World Languages, or a related field

Minimum of three years of teaching experience in a World Languages classroom, preferably in an international school setting, including IB curriculum

Familiarity with language standards and curricula, as well as best practices in language instruction

Experience working with diverse student populations and ability levels
