Responsibilities

  • Provide basic nursing care aligned with hospital standards.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Provide basic nursing care in accordance with established standards, work collaboratively with team members, and report any incidents or issues to relevant authorities to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.

JOB DESCRIPTION
ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT
  • 1. Provide basic nursing care that aligns with the vision, mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives of the nursing services and the hospital.
  • 2. Notify the nursing leaders of any situations that impact the quality of care.
  • 3. Obtain ward report and assignment at the beginning of each shift and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Unit Manager or Senior Registered Nurse
  • 4. Perform Daily routine: Conducts regular nursing rounds to assess patients’ needs and communicate with them and their families. Prepares and tidies patients’ beds and linens as needed and organizes patients’ belongings as well as furniture. Disinfects the beds, furniture, and equipment after utilizing them. Maintain the ward, store, fridge and its facilities clean and tidy. Assist the patient with filling the hot water flask if needed. Answer phone calls and relay messages. Attendants to patients call the bell promptly. Assists nurses in transporting patients to and from the operating theatre. Escorts patients to other services for diagnostic tests and from the ward to other areas upon discharge. Dispatches specimens to the laboratory and collects results Collect pharmacy and surgical supplies from pharmacy and the store as required to maintain adequate stock levels for operations. Send out portable oxygen tanks for refilling or exchange, ensuring a continuous supply for emergency needs
  • 5. Assists the trained staff in various aspects: Carried out of nursing care, such as patient comfort, safety, nutrition, hygiene, admission, transfer, discharge, dressing, intravenous lines, catheterization, etc. Cleans and disinfects the trolley and instruments after use and stores them properly. Records the daily charges for the items used in the ward and updates the patients’ charges accordingly. Serves meals, prepare drinks for patients if needed, and collects trays Maintains the record of intake and output chart for each patient. Lifts, turns, and positions patients safely and comfortably using the correct body mechanics. Accompanies the consultant in performing procedures and rounds in the absence of trained nurses.
  • 6. Attend meetings held by the service.
HUMAN RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT
  • 1. Proactive in our own learning and development, and to meet the minimum requirement of 20 hours of continuing education per year.
  • 2. Participate and contribute in a teaching program and provide orientation to new staff members on ward routines, being flexible and adaptable to any new service that is implemented.
  • 3. Supervising new members to ensure the provision of high-quality nursing care.
  • 4. Maintain a record of personal leave and training attendance.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURE

Adhere to the hospital's policies and nursing code of conduct, ensuring patient confidentiality and standard infection control practices are upheld.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
  • 1. Assist the qualified staff in the following: Oversees the storage and condition of biomedical equipment within the unit, inspecting it regularly to ensure it meets the PPM schedule, reports any faulty equipment, and is ready for use. Overseeing the linen and medical supply store by ensuring adequate stock and linen supply according to par level, monitoring stock movement and tallying after charging, coordinating monthly internal stock counts, and maintaining accurate records of equipment, medical supplies, consumable items, and laboratory items for specimen collections.
  • 2. Participate in doing a stock count with the finance team quarterly.
SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES
  • 1. Participate in new services, comply with 5S activities, patient safety policies, and adherence to ISO, MSQH, JCI, PSG, BFHI and NNA, ensure comply with patient safety goals, and occupational safety measures.
  • 2. Participate and contribute to the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative certification, with a focus on promoting exclusive breastfeeding (especially working at O&G and LDR)
  • 3. Adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994, take reasonable care at work, cooperate with employers, wear proper PPE, and follow all safety and health instructions and measures.
JOB REQUIREMENT
  • Education: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Certified healthcare assistants would be a priority.
  • Knowledge and Experiences: Experience working in a hospital setting is an advantage.
  • Skills & Competencies: Certified Basic Life Support
  • Special skills required: Able to converse fluently and write in English language and Bahasa Malaysia
  • Personal attributes: Have interpersonal and communication skills. Caring, honest, and responsible worker. Willingness to work on scheduled hours, shifts and weekends, public holidays and any time called during an emergency.
