Job summary

  • Formulate policies and procedures that define the Shariah governance structure, roles, responsibilities, accountabilities, and scope of duties within the Bank. These policies should also describe communication and operational arrangements among stakeholders.
  • Supervise functions related to Shariah Advisory, research, and Secretariat to ensure guidelines, policies, and procedures are well formulated, supported, and executed. Monitor resource adequacy and manpower support for Shariah governance activities.
  • Ensure the delivery of regular reports to the Shariah Committee, Joint Board, and Board Committees on Shariah matters, non-compliance events, audit findings, with proposed remedial actions, following proper reporting procedures to BNM and relevant stakeholders.
  • Act as an intermediary for formal reporting channels among key functions, ensuring effective communication between the Shariah Committee, Board, Management, and Audit/Risk functions.
  • Spearhead initiatives under the Shariah Governance Working Group (SGWG) and industry enhancement projects for Islamic finance.
  • Lead the implementation of Shariah Compliance Culture, training, and capacity building in line with BNM policies.
  • Oversee the Shariah Centre of Excellence to promote thought leadership, capacity building, research, and best practices.
  • Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements from BNM and Securities Commission.
Education/Qualifications
  • B.A (Hons) in Fiqh and Usul Fiqh, Islamic Law, or Islamic Studies specialized in Fiqh.
  • Master's degree and PhD are advantages.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Islamic banking.
  • Proficiency in English, Arabic, and Bahasa Malaysia; good presentation skills are an advantage.
  • Certifications such as CSA, CSAA (AAOIFI), SiSIP (IBFIM), or CIFP (INCEIF) are advantageous.
