A leading Malaysian electrical power technology company is seeking an experienced Project Manager for power line and cable projects. The role entails defining project scopes, overseeing execution, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Defining Project Scope: Clearly defining the scope, objectives, and deliverables for power lines and cable projects, ensuring that they meet client, regulatory, and safety standards.
Creating Project Plans: Developing detailed project plans that outline timelines, resource requirements, risk management strategies, and key milestones.
Coordination of Execution: Overseeing the execution of multiple, often complex, projects simultaneously, ensuring that teams follow the established plan while adhering to safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
Resource Allocation: Ensuring adequate resources (human, equipment, materials) are allocated across all phases of the project, from design and procurement to installation and testing.
2. Risk and Safety Management
Risk Identification and Mitigation: Identifying and addressing potential risks such as weather delays, regulatory changes, safety concerns, and budget overruns that could impact the delivery of power line and cable projects.
Safety Standards Compliance: Ensuring that all project work complies with safety standards, industry regulations, and environmental policies, reducing the risk of accidents and project disruptions.
Safety Audits and Inspections: Regularly reviewing safety protocols, conducting audits, and ensuring the safety of all personnel involved in power line and cable projects.
3. Team Leadership and Development
Leading a Multidisciplinary Team: Leading a team of project managers, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in power line and cable projects.
Team Training and Development: Ensuring the team is trained on the latest technologies, safety protocols, and regulatory changes in the power transmission and distribution industry.
Performance Management: Overseeing the performance of project teams, ensuring clear communication, conflict resolution, and addressing any staffing or resource issues that arise.
4. Stakeholder and Client Management
Client Interaction: Managing relationships with clients, utility companies, and regulatory authorities to ensure all parties are aligned on project goals, timelines, and deliverables.
Stakeholder Communication: Regularly updating internal stakeholders (senior management, finance, operations) on project status, progress, issues, and changes.
Managing Expectations: Effectively communicating project challenges and changes to clients, ensuring expectations are set and met regarding cost, timelines, and scope.
5. Budget and Financial Oversight
Budget Planning and Control: Developing and managing project budgets for power line and cable projects, ensuring they stay within financial constraints while still achieving project objectives.
Cost Management: Overseeing the procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services to ensure the project stays within budget, while managing any cost overruns.
Financial Reporting: Providing accurate, timely reports on financial performance, including expenditure tracking, cost savings, and project profitability.
6. Regulatory Compliance and Permitting
Permitting: Ensuring all necessary permits and approvals are obtained from local, state, and federal authorities before beginning work on power line projects.
Regulatory Compliance: Staying updated on industry regulations, environmental laws, and safety standards, and ensuring projects are compliant at all stages.
Environmental Considerations: Managing environmental impact assessments and ensuring sustainable practices are followed, particularly during construction or upgrades to power lines.
7. Vendor and Contractor Management
Procurement Management: Leading the procurement of materials, equipment, and services necessary for power line construction, installation, and maintenance.
Contractor Management: Managing relationships with contractors and third-party vendors, ensuring they deliver quality work on time and within budget.
Contract Negotiations: Negotiating contracts and agreements with vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring terms are favorable and compliant with industry standards.
8. Project Monitoring and Reporting
Progress Monitoring: Continuously tracking project progress, performance metrics, and KPIs (key performance indicators) to ensure that projects are on track.
Reporting: Providing regular progress reports to senior leadership and stakeholders, outlining project timelines, costs, risks, and performance.
Quality Control: Ensuring that all deliverables meet quality standards, including testing and inspection of power lines and cables to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
9. Project Closure and Handover
Final Inspections and Testing: Overseeing the final inspection, testing, and commissioning of the completed power line and cable installations to ensure they meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
Client Handover: Ensuring the successful handover of completed projects to clients, including providing documentation, training, and ongoing maintenance plans.
Post-Project Evaluation: Conducting a post-project evaluation to assess the project's success, gather feedback, and identify areas for improvement in future project.
Job Requirement:
Ø Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field (required).
Ø Master's degree or MBA (preferred).
Ø Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is highly regarded and often required.
Ø 10+ years of experience in project management, including 3–5 years in a leadership role.
Ø Proven experience in managing large-scale, complex projects across various industries such as TNB related projects construction / private construction
Ø Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
Ø Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
Ø Budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation expertise.
Ø Deep understanding of project management tools (e.g., MS Project, etc.).
