Job summary

Chubb External in Malaysia is seeking an experienced underwriting leader to drive risk assessment and profitability across Accident & Health lines. You will oversee portfolio performance, develop robust underwriting processes and collaborate with product, legal, and distribution teams to support growth.

The role emphasizes market intelligence, training and development of underwriters, and maintaining financial discipline throughout the value chain while aligning with regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting to assess risk and underwrite new and renewal business for Accident & Health.
• Monitor revenue and profitability by line of business and take timely corrective action.
• Develop and maintain underwriting processes and ensure financial discipline.
• Oversee portfolio analysis and report performance monthly/quarterly.
• Collaborate with legal, compliance, IT and distribution for product development.
• Provide training to underwriters and guide operations.
• Market intelligence on competitors and regulatory trends.

Underwriting

• Leading the underwriting function to assess risk and underwriter new and renewal business for Accident & Health as per Underwriting guideline with focus on growth and profitability.
• Monitor performance in term of revenue expectation and profitability for each lines of business, product, channel, major sponsor, etc. and take timely corrective action.
• Manage all intermediaries to monitor market requirements and ensure maximum topline
  Develop and maintain documented underwriting process and frameworks ensuring that appropriate financial discipline is applied by the organization at all steps of the value chain from top to bottom line.
  

Portfolio Management

• Responsible for Portfolio Analysis, identify key actions to maintain targeted financial and oversee execution of action plans.
• Identify specific poor performing accounts; review of acquisition expenses; review of claim reports/activity; review of portfolio by producer.
• Develop and maintain a monthly/ quarterly performance reports and provide insightful analysis to internal stakeholders.

Product Development

• Managing product development entire life cycle from product idealization, concept, creation to launch, including policy documentation and marketing materials within the approved product governance framework.
• Collaborate with various stakeholders, such as legal, compliance, vendor, IT and distribution channels for product roll out.
• Work with Product Leaders and Distribution channels to develop marketing strategies and plans for product development including working with Marketing/Corporate Communications on Marketing collaterals and new product launches.
• Maintain proper documentation of all relevant internal/external analysis conducted and information used in the product development, pricing and approval signoffs.
• Create a system and process for ensuring appropriate post implementation/post launch monitoring of new products in line with the regulatory and Company guidelines.
• Prepare product documentation for submission to PIAM and/or BNM where necessary.
  

Market intelligence

• Responsible for market research of competitors’ products and trends within the industry.
• Provide recommendations and input on strategic product opportunities.
• Maintain awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and appropriate steps to mitigate the risks.
  

Training and Development

• Responsible for training underwriters along with the ownership of their future training needs for professional development.
• Provide necessary and periodic training and guidance to operations related to underwriting.
