Job description
Overview

St Joseph’s Institution International School (SJIIS) Malaysia is a Lasallian International School (3 to 18 years). It prepares students for the IGCSE and A Level examinations with an emphasis upon research-based teaching pedagogy and a character-building programme of activities inspired by the school’s Lasallian heritage. This includes service learning initiatives, and a holistic approach to sport, music and the arts. Our students are a pleasure to teach, allowing you to focus on developing your craft, with the support of professional development opportunities both within school and beyond.

SJIIS is seeking an outstanding and inspirational Head of Sixth Form, whose passion and experience will transform the outcomes of our students. The successful candidate will have a fantastic opportunity to join the staff of this ambitious international school.

The School is committed to providing an outstanding Sixth Form programme that meets the needs of our driven and focused students. The Head of Sixth Form will play a key role in defining this. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge and understanding of Sixth Form best practices as well.

We are committed to securing the highest possible standards of pastoral care to ensure that our pupils will flourish with the knowledge and skills that will prepare them for future studies and for lifelong learning. The school has a very strong extra-curricular programme for its students, and all teachers, including senior leaders, are expected to make a significant contribution to this.

The successful candidate will uphold the school values, and put pupils‘ wellbeing and character development at the heart of learning. They will be responsible for promoting high quality education for all students in an inclusive setting, showing respect for all within our community.

Requirements

We are looking for a committed, passionate and knowledgeable professional who will work proactively to ensure the best possible standards of pastoral care and character development across the school. Prior leadership experience in a pastoral role is essential.

A Successful Candidate Will
  • Engage and motivate members of staff, in particular Heads of Year
  • Demonstrate knowledge of up to date, context specific character, wellbeing and safeguarding best practices and their underlying ethos.
  • Understand how pastoral and academic roles work together, rather than in isolation.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in academic research and wider reading around character development and student wellbeing and how to use that research practically
  • Have knowledge and experience of effective pastoral interventions and their underlying ethos
  • Have knowledge and experience of Special Educational Needs
  • Have knowledge and experience of effective integration for new students
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, policy relating to safeguarding, student pastoral support and behaviour development and implementation
  • Be able to work collaboratively, develop effective relationships and establish productive partnerships.

We expect all candidates to address the above points in their letter of application.

We Can Offer
  • The opportunity to work in a dynamic, state of the art environment
  • A caring, inclusive Lasallian school focused on holistic education
  • A school-wide commitment to accelerating and deepening pupils’ learning
  • A highly effective team supporting character development and supporting each other
  • Excellent professional development opportunities to promote the delivery of cutting edge practice
  • Competitive teachers’ pay and conditions

SJIIS Malaysia is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and we hold ourselves to a high standard concerning safer recruitment policy and processes. We expect the same commitment to keeping children safe from all of our staff and applicants will be subject to child protection screening appropriate to the post including a full DBS check, checks with past employers, online checks and relevant international police checks.

We will interview applicants on a rolling basis and reserve the right to appoint a candidate before the closing date if a suitable one is found.
