SUMMARY
- To manage, organize and direct the overall functions of the Engineering Department
- Maximize plant and equipment availability, optimize the utilization of resources and assets
- Ensure the cost competitiveness of the maintenance function, consistent with budgetary requirements, company policies and business objectives
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
- Provide leadership in the engineering function to ensure the engineering resources at the plant work together to exceed in all applicable functional and business targets.
- When required, extend this leadership beyond the engineering function in the pursuit of excellence
- Understand the need to make cultural change within an established cross‑functional engineering team.
Personnel Performance Management
- Ensure all direct and indirect reports are engaged in skills development in terms of technical skills, problem solving skills based behavioral development.
- Engage with HR function, either directly or indirectly via extended team leadership, to ensure all employees fulfill both the spirit and the letter of their contractual obligations.
- Appraise, lead, motivate, coach and develop the maintenance team in accordance so that they maintain the plant to deliver the target operating efficiencies.
- Maintain a close relationship with all site functions, either directly or indirectly via plant interactive measures,
- Ensure all plant assets and equipment are capable and resourced to deliver as required.
- Ensure plant is continually improving via global benchmarking and the interaction of best practice.
Recruitment
- Involvement in all recruitment into the engineering function, ensuring the plant has a pool of personnel capable of meeting the future challenges in the business.
Functional Representation
- Provide functional representation in on-site meetings for development and management, together with external networking meetings.
- Provide leadership, in term of the site’s production function and the site’s management team.
Equipment Availability & Efficiency
- Prepares long and short term maintenance strategies in such a way that the asset and plant availability is maximised at an optimum cost.
- Plan, strategise, manage and achieve the engineering maintenance and project requirements so as to ensure maximum equipment and plant availability at optimum cost to meet overall business objectives.
- Carry out effective, efficient fault finding and problem resolution to root cause where possible on a wide range of complex systems in a continuous process environment.
Safety & Compliance
- Apply, and ensure compliance, with the Company’s Health & Safety and Environmental Policy and Procedures.
- Ensure a safe working environment in the engineering section by inculcating a high standard of housekeeping and safety awareness.
Budget Control
- Control and monitor optimum budget to ensure optimum plant utilisation, reliability, and productivity.
- To ensure all financial control procedures are adhered to so that the Engineering Team has an accurate and up to date picture of current spend vs. budget.
- Maintains a wide range of contacts both within and outside the company.
- Maintains a good working relationship with his counterpart in the statutory bodies to ensure approvals are granted within specific time frame in order to avoid unnecessary delays and repeat inspections.
- Maintain regular contact, represent the department, and ensure good working relationships with statutory bodies.
- Ensure compliance and conformity of engineering operations to all legal requirements and regulations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of working experience in the related field is required for this position.
- Preferably Manager specialized in engineering and/or maintenance field within the manufacturing/production operation environment or equivalent.
- Clear and demonstrable record of personal development following graduation.
- Substantial experience (5 years minimum) of continuous process plant operation, with a tangible reference to process improvement, utilising people engagement, made during that period.
