As Head of Business Development for Laboratory Services, the primary role is to lead and expand the lab's commercial offerings, promoting testing and analytical services to external clients. This role involves building strong customer relationships, developing sales strategies, managing departmental budgets, and ensuring client satisfaction in line with technical capabilities and standards.

Lead and expand external laboratory services, promote testing and analytical services to external clients, build customer relationships, develop sales strategies, manage budgets, and ensure client satisfaction aligned with technical capabilities and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a robust sales strategy to grow the external laboratory services market.
  • Identify, engage, and secure new business opportunities while nurturing existing client accounts.
  • Meet or exceed sales targets and ensure a consistent pipeline of leads and prospects.
  • Prepare and submit sales quotations, proposals, and tenders, with timely follow-ups.
  • Prepare and update weekly, monthly, and annual sales plans and forecasts.
  • Build and maintain productive, long-term relationships with customers across various industries.
  • Address customer inquiries, resolve technical and service issues, and ensure high satisfaction levels.
  • Arrange and manage site visits, sample deliveries, and other client servicing needs.
  • Maintain regular customer interaction and follow-ups to monitor satisfaction and encourage repeat business.
  • Work closely with lab chemists and technical staff to align client requirements with testing capabilities.
  • Ensure services provided meet industry standards, regulatory compliance, and client expectations.
  • Translate client feedback and market needs into service improvement suggestions.
  • Manage the P&L of the laboratory services division, including budgeting, cost control, and revenue analysis.
  • Monitor sales variances, initiate corrective actions, and align expenditures with financial goals.
  • Ensure commercial operations are efficient and contribute positively to profitability.
  • Provide regular updates on market trends, competitor activities, and industry opportunities.
  • Generate sales performance reports, customer feedback analysis, and market intelligence for management.
  • Recommend strategies to enhance the competitiveness and visibility of lab services.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Chemistry/Applied Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry, or a science field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in the laboratory as a sales or chemistry professional.
  • Additional certifications in laboratory quality systems (e.g. ISO/IEC 17025) are an advantage.
  • Strong track record of client acquisition, relationship building, and revenue growth.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing methods, standards, and industry compliance.
  • Proficient in quotation/tender preparation, sales planning, and P&L management.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and CRM software for sales tracking and reporting.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willing to travel for client meetings, site visits, or industry networking events.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
