About The Client
Our client is a renewable energy solutions provider in Malaysia, offering end-to-end solar power services from design and installation to remote monitoring and maintenance. They cater to residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, including large-scale solar farms, with flexible financing options like zero-CAPEX models.
Key Responsibilities
- General Ledger & Financial Reporting
- Maintain and supervise the integrity of the general ledger and accounting system.
- Manage consolidation and group reporting requirements.
- Preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Ensure adherence to applicable accounting standards (ie: MFRS and others where the organization operates in the future.).
- Maintain chart of accounts aligned with construction project structures.
- Project Accounting & Cost Control
- Set up and monitor job costing systems to track project-wise revenues and expenses.
- Coordinate with project teams to monitor budget vs actuals and identify variances.
- Verify proper allocation of overheads, labour, equipment and materials.
- Accounts Payable (AP) & Receivable (AR) Management
- Supervise AP processes: vendor management, invoice validation, retention tracking & etc.
- Supervise AR processes: progress billing, milestone invoicing, and customer collections.
- Fixed Assets & Inventory Accounting
- Manage accounting for capital expenditures, asset capitilisation, depreciation & etc.
- Track and reconcile inventory at project sites and warehouse. (ie: materials and tools.)
- Statutory Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with local tax laws and other applicable regulations (ie: SST, E invoicing & etc.).
- Lead internal and external audits; ensure timely submission of audit requirements.
- Maintain updated accounting policies and procedures.
- To undergo training and seminars for future new regulations and to train and lead the team for implementation.
- Internal Controls and Process Improvement
- Implement and monitor internal controls over financial transactions and reporting.
- Review and improved accounting processes, documentation, and approval of workflows.
- Cash Flow & Bank Management
- Supervise daily cash position and review payment processing.
- Review and approve bank reconciliations, signatory controls, and online banking systems.
- Manage the issuance and/or renewal of bank facilities (LC, BGs, Forex and others)
- Review daily, weekly, monthly treasury reports: bank balances, cash-flow forecasts and etc.
- Systems & ERP Management
- Oversee accounting modules in the ERP (MDynamics 365 & etc.)
- Collaborate with the IT department ensuring accurate data entry, system integrity and timely updates.
- To undergo training to train the accounting department on system usage and compliance.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach and mentor of the accounting department.
- Define KPIs, conduct performance reviews, and manage training/upskilling programs.
- Promote a culture of accuracy, timeliness and accountability.
- Promote healthy and active inter-departmental interactions, communications and collaborations.
- And other ad-hoc required and related matters assigned.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an accounting role.
- At least 2 years of experience as a manager or head of accounts.
- Experience in the construction or engineering sector.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance.
- Certifications in the relevant field are an added advantage.
- Deep knowledge of MFRS.
- Understanding of revenue recognition, especially in construction contracts.
- Experience with job costing, WIP (work-in-progress), retention, billing schedules, and project-based accounting.
- Familiarity with construction-specific terms such as BOQ, BOM, variation orders, and contract progressive claims.
- Knowledge of tax and statutory compliance.
- Experience with accounting/ERP systems.
- Knowledge of internal control frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and coordinate a team of accountants and clerks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with internal and external teams.
- Capable of handling month-end/year-end closings, audits, and reporting deadlines without delays.
- Ability to drive automation, standardization, and efficiency in accounting processes.
- Able to work independently and lead teams with minimal supervision.
