A growing technology firm in Penang is seeking a Head of Accounting to oversee financial operations and guide the company's financial future. This leadership role involves managing day-to-day accounting, budgeting, and reporting, while ensuring integrity and compliance. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of accounting experience, excellent leadership, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Travel is required intermittently for events, and candidates must demonstrate strong integrity and adaptability.
We are seeking a highly driven Head of Accounting to join our growing team at Calian Tech Sdn Bhd in Penang. This leadership role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, values integrity, and is ready to take ownership of the company’s financial future. You will oversee day-to-day accounting operations and play a visionary role in budgeting, forecasting, and guiding the company toward sustainable growth. Our business spans live tournaments, events, merchandise, and global trade management, making this a dynamic position with wide financial exposure.
This role requires flexibility to work outside normal office hours, especially during live tournament periods, deadlines, and international event operations. This role requires overseas travel approximately 4 to 6 times per year (allowance given).
Handle corporate full set accounts, annual tax estimation.
Lead and manage the accounting function.
Develop upfront budget planning and forecasting.
Ensure integrity, compliance, and accuracy in all financial reports.
Manage cash flow, payment structures, and reconciliation for large-scale live tournaments and events.
Oversee inventory and revenue tracking for merchandise sales.
Provide financial oversight for global trade transactions in line with company policy.
Administer affiliate and commission schemes, ensuring accurate reporting and timely payouts.
Design and implement creative accounting systems tailored for live tournaments, merchandise operations, and international transactions.
Establish real-time financial tracking systems for live tournaments, ensuring accuracy during high-volume events.
Liaise with tax agent, auditor and secretary.
Support management with financial insights for strategic decisions.
Commit to responsibilities beyond standard working hours when required.
Strong integrity and ethical standards.

Visionary mindset with the ability to plan ahead financially.
Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Chartered or certified (e.g. CPA, ACCA, ICAEW) will be value added.
Must familiar with corporate tax treatment and tax regulation. (include SST, E-Invoice, Withholding Tax)
Must be highly adaptable to working off-hours and in fast-paced live tournament environments.
Minimum 5 years of accounting/finance experience (events, live tournaments, entertainment, or related industries preferred but not mandatory).
Experience in budgeting and financial control for large-scale projects or operations.
Familiarity with merchandise sales tracking, stock/inventory accounting, and vendor settlements.
Exposure to affiliate financial management and commission-based payout schemes.
Knowledge of global trade transactions, compliance, and reconciliation processes is a strong advantage.
Experience in building or adapting accounting systems for dynamic industries (events, entertainment, live operations, or similar).
Strong understanding of financial controls in live tournament environments, including handling buy-ins, prize pools, commissions, and affiliate settlements.
Proven ability to manage tight deadlines, irregular schedules, and high-volume transactions.
