Job description

Hardware Design Engineer

Date: Apr 11, 2025

Location: Penang, 07, MY

The Senior Lead Engineer, Electrical Design develops new electrical systems/circuits for various applications. Research system ideas and draw up plans for these systems, and capture them in schematics and system specifications. Test, simulate, validate and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed. Provide support throughout the manufacturing of the electrical systems they have designed.
The Senior Lead Engineer, Electrical Design works in cross functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations.

Detailed Description

Duties

  1. Identify technical issues, troubleshoot and resolve them by coordinating with R&D, Manufacturing and Field teams.
  2. Participate in customer technical meetings and prepare training programs for internal subordinates.
  3. Hardware validation of Networking, Storage, Server products against customer’s infield issues, requirements and Mfg. issues during NPI or RMA.
  4. System validation including DVT (Design Validation Trial), SPIT (Signal, Power, Integrity & Timing) environmental & regulatory approval.
  5. Qualify alternative components for compatibility, cost effectiveness and benchmarking.
  6. Support Manufacturing Engineering and Test Engineers on trouble shooting and resolving technical issues and root cause analysis.
  7. Work with software teams to identify root cause of system failure.
  8. Ability to install software such as Linux based Operating Systems, ONIE, BIOS, BMC, SES.
  9. Proficient in using various test and measurement equipment including but not limited to Oscilloscope, Impedance analyzer, Power meter, Signal analyzer, Spectrum analyzer.
  10. Candidates should have 8+ years' experience in either Network, Storage or Server products.
  11. Strong electrical design and debug skills required.
  12. Familiar with PCIe, NVMe, SAS, SATA, I2C, SPI, DDR buses.
  13. SDRAM timing and integrity analysis for clocks, strobes, S&H, Power bounce, temp stability.
  14. Hands-on design knowledge of latest peripheral chipsets for Gigabit Ethernet, SCSI, SATA, SAS, USB, Ethernet, & PCI cards etc.
  15. High performance RISC / X86 CPUs and architecture including Intel, AMD, MRVL.
  16. Working knowledge of windows & Linux configuration, installation procedure, network configuration, driver configuration etc.
  17. Working knowledge of Diag, ONIE, BIOS, BMC, Linux and Windows operating systems.
Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
  • 4 to 6 years in a similar role or industry.
Typical Education

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational Requirements may vary by Geography.
