Job summary

BP Malaysia invites ambitious graduates to join its early careers program within the Data & AI discipline. You will participate in three structured rotations, gaining hands-on experience in data engineering, analytics, and ML/AI applications designed to drive safety, efficiency, and cost improvements across bp's operations.

Ideal candidates are final-year students or recent graduates with strong coding skills (C#, Java, Python or R), solid knowledge of data structures, and a passion for turning

Qualifications

• Candidates should be in final year or have completed a degree in computer science or data science.
• Strong fundamentals in high-level languages (C#, Java, Python or R) and data modelling.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, statistics and linear algebra.
• Experience or familiarity with SQL, Python, and analytical tools.
• Knowledge of version control (Git) is preferred.

Your early careers program

One Digital is an early careers program built to develop a strong pipeline of diverse digital talent. You will join a global digital community, gain broad cross-disciplinary experience, build transferable skill sets, and work on solving some of the most complex challenges of today and the future. The programme offers a range of foundational career experiences and serves as a launchpad for an exciting and impactful digital career.

Early careers experience at bp

Our graduate program is for 3 years. During this time, you'll have the opportunity to complete 3 rotations designed to give you hands on experience in a real work environment and experience supporting different aspects of bp's business. You will also take part in development opportunities designed to build both your technical and universal skills; empowering you to strive for excellence, today and in the future. Another key aspect of your program are our signature engagements- high impact and engaging events that are unique to bp, like bpChallenge. These experiences will help you build your network and offer visibility across the organisation. Throughout the program you'll have a dedicated support network to provide guidance on the program and advice on career development. You'll also be a key part of the bp early careers community, with events, socials and the opportunity to network with other early careers from across bp.

About the discipline: Data & AI

The digital disciplines are a logical grouping of digital capabilities that facilitate the development of skills and experience, career progression and digital talent in bp. Our digital disciplines are made up of specialist sub-disciplines which focus on aspects of our digital capability.

Data and AI: We build data products, derive actionable insights, build ML/AI applications using analytics, data science and AI. This includes:

• Data engineering (architecture) & data management
• Data science and machine learning engineering
• Data analytics
• AI Engineering

Role and Responsibilities

This role will be part of the Data & AI discipline and during the early careers programme duration, you may be placed in a different role within this discipline at rotation.

You will work with business SMEs, data managers, data scientists, data engineers and data analysts, product analysts, platform engineers to understand a specific business problem and how solving the problem impacts overall business performance and how to make it even better. You will dig into data sets and use tools and techniques to extract actionable insights from the data to narrate a specific data story for the business users which would help business make decisions to drive performance in terms of safety, operational efficiency and cost.

Requirements

To apply for this role , you will preferably need a 3.2 CGPA and above , or equivalent, on computer science, data science, with strong data modelling, data analysis or statistical components.

You’ll also need to be in your final year of study or have completed your degree

A firm grasp of development fundamentals in high-level languages (such as C#/Java/Python/R) with desire and eagerness to learn more.

Good problem-solving skills with a good understanding of data-structures & algorithms
