Qualifications

  • CGPA 3.2+ or equivalent on CS or data science with strong data modelling/analysis.
  • Penultimate or final year students can apply to the internship.
  • Fundamentals in high-level languages (C#/Java/Python/R) and eagerness to learn more.
  • Good problem-solving with understanding of data structures & algorithms.
  • Strong background in statistics, probability and linear algebra.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python and analytical tools; good coding skills.
  • Basic understanding of version control (Git) and agile development (Scrum/Kanban).
  • Interest/projects/internship in Data-AI fields is a plus.
  • Structured thinking and strategic problem-solving with proven examples.
  • Soft skills: communication, continuous learning, inclusive team player.

Responsibilities

Your early careers program One Digital is an early careers program built to develop a strong pipeline of diverse digital talent. You will join a global digital community, gain broad cross-disciplinary experience, build transferable skill sets, and work on solving some of the most complex challenges of today and the future. The programme offers a range of foundational career experiences and serves as a launchpad for an exciting and impactful digital career. Early careers experience at bp Our summer internships are 3 months to 6 months. You'll be based in one team throughout your internship, working on real projects that you'll be able to manage through to completion. Throughout you'll have the support of a dedicated line manager and a buddy from one of our early career programs. Alongside your day-to-day responsibilities, you'll have the opportunity to attend events and socials, take part in training sessions to help develop your interpersonal skills and network with leaders from across bp. The program is designed to help build your skills and technical knowledge whilst also allowing you to learn more about life at bp. This is an assessed internship and may be a potential talent pipeline into graduate opportunities the following year.

About the discipline: Data & AI

The digital disciplines are a logical grouping of digital capabilities that facilitate the development of skills and experience, career progression and digital talent in bp. Our digital disciplines are made up of specialist sub-disciplines which focus on aspects of our digital capability. Data and AI: We build data products, derive actionable insights, build ML/AI applications using analytics, data science and AI. This includes: Data engineering (architecture) & data management Data science and machine learning engineering Data analytics AI Engineering

Role and Responsibilities

This role will be part of the Data & AI discipline and during the early careers programme duration, you may be placed in a different role within this discipline at rotation. You will work with business SMEs, data managers, data scientists, data engineers and data analysts, product analysts, platform engineers to understand a specific business problem and how solving the problem impacts overall business performance and how to make it even better. You will dig into data sets and use tools and techniques to extract actionable insights from the data to narrate a specific data story for the business users which would help business make decisions to drive performance in terms of safety, operational efficiency and cost.

Requirements

To apply for this role, you will preferably need a 3.2 CGPA and above, or equivalent, on computer science, data science, with strong data modelling, data analysis or statistical components. Students who are in the penultimate year or final year can apply to this internship A firm grasp of development fundamentals in high-level languages (such as C#/Java/Python/R) with desire and eagerness to learn more. Good problem-solving skills with a good understanding of data-structures & algorithms Good understanding in mathematical areas like statistics, probability, and linear algebra. Knowledge on SQL, Python & Analytical Tools with good coding skills Basic understanding of version control (Git) and agile development methodologies (Agile with Scrum/Kanban) Getting the basics right and having a curious & creative mindset will be key to your advancement in the field. Interest/Projects/Internship on Data-AI related fields – is a plus Structured thinking, strategic problem-solving abilities with proven examples Soft skills: Good communication skills, continuous learning & improvement mindset, an empathetic, curious, creative & inclusive team player.
