Job description

Job Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and supervise the engineering works, projects such as the construction of yards, rehabilitation of track, and track renewal to facilitate the smooth daily train operations.
• Liaise and monitor major engineering works which have been assigned by the railways to the consultants to ensure that the work is completed on time, according to agreed specifications, and within cost.
• Maintain liaison with the government or other Statutory Authorities that carry out engineering works to ensure that the work is proceeding smoothly.
• Achieve a cost-effective maintenance operation by preparing and monitoring the maintenance operating budget to reduce costs.
• Ensure the availability of appropriate professional staff by providing training, motivating, and developing them to increase their competencies and enhance work performance.
• Ensure all permanent way projects are finished on time, quality specification, and within cost to achieve the department's business objectives.
• Ensure that the railway track is inspected periodically, process track renewal works, and arrange material and manpower to ensure safety.
• Formulate the departmental planning and quality functions, such as training, investigation of tracks, identifying locations for track construction, and the preparation of a budget, with the objective of improving the departmental planning and quality assurance capabilities.
• Extend good cooperation to the Internal Audit Department and be accountable for all audit findings related to the department, as well as rectification of the audit findings
  
  

Candidates Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or higher, preferably in a subject that has some synergy with the track engineering system. A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage;
• At least 15 years of relevant and significant experience in track engineering systems, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of safety regulations; OR
• For internal candidate - Qualified Senior Manager (G04) with at least 5 years of experience in a similar position within KTMB;
• Well-exposed in finance, business development and management;
• Able to command the respect of the Board of Directors, Management and staff;
• Proven strategic leadership, management and decision-making skills together with strong commercial acumen;
• Able to work effectively with various stakeholders, including engineers, operators, and regulators;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Bahasa Melayu.
